Your right, it reduces the file size more than half way. Of course it won't zip Starcraft maps. It will zip programs to half the size. Go try it yourself.

Eg.
ScmDraft program is 1035kb in size
when ziped it goes to 480 kb in size

Boy I hope not...or I'll have to keep my alpha tests a lot more private, which means you won't see the finished product until a lot later.

Currently, the download size of StarForge UNZIPPED is about 360 kb. It is NOT a modification to staredit. I programmed everything from scratch. The breakdown is as follows:
StarForge.dll 136 kb
StarForge.exe 196 kb
Misc. Data: 27 kb

Once again, instead of speculating about what StarForge can and can't do, I suggest you read the "official" thread on BlizzForums, located here.

Meh...I guess I'm just not too happy about some of the things I've read on this thread. StarForge has already been leaked outside my initial group of testers...as well as another program that is FAR more dangerous. I'm more ticked off about that than StarForge...It doesn't really matter anymore though, what's done is done.

If there is one, I don't know about it and I'll be pretty angry at whoever made it. But, like I said, there's nothing I can do now.

The reason I didn't want the public to have access to the alpha versions is because I was worried that they would pay more attention to its bugs than its features (ala StarDraft) and write it off as a failure before it had ever been tested. As it stands, about 50% of the testers had trouble even installing the thing. Releasing StarForge to the public at this point may give it a bad name.

Also, Drunkenwrestler suggested that I should be the first one to distribute a map made with StarForge, demonstrating its power. That would be nice, but I don't think that I want to take the time after all the programming is finished to make a map before releasing the program to the public.

One more thing: I get the feeling that most of the people that want to see it want to use it to make maps, not find bugs and make the program better.

yes of course we want to make maps with it... we would find errors though as we're making them, wish i don't think your doing at the point?
