Not at all, rather it pushes people forward to achieve great things on their own for their country.
If you base your identity on a country, the aggregate of individuals, how does that not take away the focus from the individual? You can't have it both ways.

And military status is just about the first thing that makes anyone great, might makes right and its always been like this, what world do you live in?
If your values are based on the ability to use coercive force on others I think your values are pretty fucked up, but since they are nothing more than a matter of opinions I'll leave this there.

The US wouldn't be a military superpower without a military, obviously, however being a military superpower is the single biggest threat to the United States being a great nation. There is an inherent centralization of power in the military and an inherent decentralization in freedom - overemphasize the military and put the two in a conflict and you see what's going on in the United States today.

Don't mind me, just postin' some lyrics.

I hope you hang yourself with your H&M scarf

While jacking off listening to Mozart

You !@@@! and moan about L.A.

Wishing you were in the rain reading Hemingway

You don't eat meat and drive electrical cars

You're so indie rock it's almost an art

You need SPF45

Just to stay alive

You're so gay and you don't even like boys

No you don't even like, no you don't even like, no you don't even like boys

You're so gay and you don't even like boys

No you don't even like, no you don't even like, no you don't even like boys

You're so sad maybe you should buy a happy meal

You're so skinny you should really super size the deal

Secretly you you're so amused

And nobody understands you

I'm so mean cuz cannot get you out of your head

I'm so angry cuz you'd rather my space instead

I can't believe I fell in love

With someone that wears more make up and

You're so gay and you don't even like boys

No you don't even like, no you don't even like, no you don't even like boys

You're so gay and you don't even like boys

No you don't even like, no you don't even like, no you don't even like

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh, oh

La, la, la

La, la, la

Oh, oh, oh

Do, do, do, do, bop, bop, bow

Do, do, do, bop, bop. day

You're so gay, you're so gay

You walking around like you're oh so debonair

You pull them down and there's really nothing there

I wish you would just be real with me

You're so gay and you don't even like boys

No you don't even like, no you don't even like, no you don't even like boys

You're so gay and you don't even like boys

No you don't even like, no you don't even like, no you don't even like

You're so gay and you don't even like boys

Eh? And why is taking away the focus from individual for the good of the country a bad thing? And actually you can have it both ways, most people who achieve anything have it both ways, you can't really abandon your personal identity.

You need to be able to use coercive force on others in order to afford any values, otherwise someone stronger will come in and tell you what your values should be.

If not for its military US would not be any type of superpower, hell its still be a damn British colony.

It's not the actual collectivism that is bad because the argument can be made pretty simply that it is chosen, it's the social and political arrangements that have always come with it throughout history. You can give someone the power to take away your personal identity, in this case, it's whoever is the figurehead for the blind nationalism.

All that proves is that you need a small number of impassioned people, it's worked out pretty well in the past, our Revolutionary War, and still works today, see the Middle East. You can choose a system of organization in which the few oppress the many, everyone oppresses everyone, or no one oppresses anyone - the last is a free society.

Sometimes the idea of a nation exists without a figurehead. For example throughout the 90s and even today many engineers in the Russian defense industry took on other jobs so they could invest their own money into the defense project that the government wasn't able to afford just to keep the industry alive to protect their nation. You're trying to rationalize everything but some things you just can't do it with. I am a Russian, so whatever happens I will always be on the side of my nation, because it is my nation, and I would be a bastard if I did anything different. Then a nation has a long history and many things to be proud of it people living there want to contribute to that nation so that what their ancestors did isn't in vain. So yes then I say WE sent the first man to space I say that we did it as Russians, as a nation and if I become a successful engineer down the line and invent something great then I will have no trouble contributing my accomplishment to my nation.

In that case there are no free societies in this world.

Meh, I don't feel like having a Webster's dictionary fight. The sun and fire don't really differ that much, both can be used as metaphors for something really, really hot. I don't see how this is an allegory at all. I was simply using the sun as the metaphor for the laser pistol and the bulb as a metaphor for the warning light, for a comparison.
