You CAN get charged as an adult...but that's usually only for more serious crimes...

This is only the beginning, because the Fourth Amendment demands that searches be reasonable, and we hold that the search conducted here was reasonable even though there was no warrant or probable cause. The warrant requirement is unsuited to a school, where swift and informal procedures are needed to maintain discipline. We hold today that school officials need not obtain a warrant before searching a student under their authority. In the school setting not even probable cause without a warrant is required to conduct the search. This is not inconsistent with past decisions which have held that some types of searches are justified based solely on suspicion, a level of proof less than probable cause.
