When and how did this place die?

DD got this place after donny bought it from max who stabbed and twisted after eric killed it, after cort, who, in this metaphor, is the iron lung, got unplugged.

Pretty hilarious when you phrase it like that, however I never owned BF.

If I remember correctly, the chain of ownership has been:

- SkuZZy Jul 2002 - Dec 2002
- chrisuk Jan 2003 - ???
- Crookedfoot (for like 3 years)
- Eric
- Max
- Donny
- DD


Chain of Admins has been something like:

SkuZZy > chrisuk
chrisuk > coRtALoS
coRtALoS > Placebo
Placebo gg'd BF
chrisuk > coRtALoS
coRtALoS > CrookedFoot, Amantis, Swooper

I kinda lose track after that, and I completely fking forget at what point I made Roach an admin. Something tells me he slipped me a mickey, after an amazing night of hawt gheysecks, got a hold of the DB pw and wrote himself in as an admin.

I would like to point out I was an admin before owner. The only benefit of being owner really was that I didn't have to (necessarily) listen to the other admins anymore. Just saying.

Looking at the source code I would work on the meta tags to start with and work on SERP. Maybe also get some mod's installed that will help encourage user registration. Advertise with good anchor text and raise the google ranking of the site.

And my god remove some of the ad spaces, they are an eye sore. You can put ad's in once this place is active again, but build the community before you pad your wallet. You might also want to remove the front page, it's horribly out of date and fairly ugly if you ask me.

Install a user agent tool on firefox and verify what google bot can see and what it can not see in order to raise the sites SEO score and SERP.

I was able to get my old site gamerout.com into the top 5 of searches for both "gaming forums" and "video gaming forums", I sold it quickly after that, made a nice chunk of change, and the site died swiftly after I made my departure. I can not stress ANCHOR TEXT enough. If you want to rank high on google, use anchor text in the link you are advertising. This site should be a breeze to rank highly if you just put some effort in. You do not even have to pay for a thing. I have never purchased a link anywhere and my old zombie site was ranked #1, the gaming site #4 (in a horribly tough genre to place in), and every other site I have tried to rank up has got in the top 5 of the searches I targeted. And the new zombie site, which is just 10 days old, is flying up the ranks as well. I estimate #1 rankings for my keywords by Novemeber at the latest.

Like I said, this place should be easy to rank up. It has a lot of age on it (good thing), a lot of content (also a good thing), and what I can only assume to be a lot of pages already indexed in google. Just change your descriptions some, work on SEO, and advertise using anchor text.

We still see a large amount of traffic - the problem is getting people to engage/register and actually post something useful or on topic!!

You can never see too much traffic. But analyze your results and see what keywords they are coming in from and what pages they are landing on. Then cater to your largest audience. I still stand by the fact that that portal page is absoultely horrendeous this site was much more active when the forums were the landing page. Also put your main categories at the top, people are mostly coming in regarding blizzard games, not the News and Announcements.

Go to the forum home page and scroll all the way to the top. This is what your guests see and when they make their decision whether to look further into the site and possibly regisiter/post, or to hit the back button on their browser. If I'm not already regisitered, and seeing that as the first thing, I am checking the next google result. The same goes for that terrible portal, but you have heard that already.

As an administrator of a forum it is you and your staff's duty to stimulate positive discussion around the community. In my opinion guests join forums in order to reply to threads, not start them. They begin starting them once they have become a more established member. You will have the occasional guest who joins to ask a question (and then never reply or return), but overall a guest that comes to respond to posts is more likely to become a more ingrained member of the community. You do not have to listen to my advice, but I always get results with my projects and everything above is just a snipit of what needs to be done around here to clean this place up and get it out of the funk it is in.

edit: but whaturmuva is right, the staff here is old and depleted all we do is clean up trash, nobody is adding or building anything, we need to find people who are essentially willing to create a new gaming site, and just let them use our existing database to leverage us onto the first page of relevant google searches.
