#1 stealing a book is completely different then stealing a map, because a book is copyrighted, and the writer makes money from it, not like a SC map.

#2 if Heimdal released his version of the unprotector, I'm sure everyone would delete archn's, and use his.

#3 How will newbs know about the unprotector if they don't come here?

heh did u ever think about all the newbs? i wouldnt steal a map to just write my name on it.. nor would anyone here.. but there ARE newbs out there that do. I would love to unprotect all the maps out there and look at the triggers and thats all.. but i can't..
So, newbs don't post here and know about it.

SCU learn noobs to make maps
SCU -CAN- be used to steal maps
Big Deal? No.

:madatu
Ok, since any "Idiot" can make a map, you should, hopefully be able to. Make a map. Put effort into it. Make it totaly original. Make the triggers, and make it a ums map. Spend almost 3 hours on it, then give it to me to release under my own name.

And, do you know what Archn almost got sued for?
Plageurism.
Stealing Credits.
Big Deal? Ill let you answer.

It can, was, and is. Join a 10-way d, 10 times, see how many are rigged. I know almost for a fact that these were protected. And i know that the creator wouldnt rig his own map over 10 times.
So, how could this map have been unprotected?
Hmmmm, Lets think. Since, "any" idiot can make a map, it takes "any" idiot to just open a program called Starcraft Unprotector, and unprotect a map, then, rig it to his liking, and release. This is one map in circulation. Now, many other people think the same way. But dont feel like editing that map, they think of others that it might be "fun" to rig.
No big deal?
Try downloading a map at the begging of every game.
Think of 56k modem users. Since dsl and cable are becomming increasingly popular, tolerance for 56k has greatly dropped, because of 56k users trying to download a map, and getting banned for doing so.
No big deal?
And to killerme, i was reffering to the amount of work that was put into it. Not the amount of money being made.

Im not trying to start a fight, im just trying to end one, that long has been redundant. To many threads have there been about archn and this whole ordeal.
Skeptcraft was hexed off archn, but no, we choose to argue with this topic.

Sueing Archn for trying to steal SCU...I doubt that...ppl often say that kind of things to scare other ppl you know :p
And I say it --->AGAIN<--- Archn didnt steal a STARCRAFT MAP that argument has NOTHING to do with SCU, just like the book :p

-No big deal at all, just plain stupid ^^
Riggin a map like Sunken is probaly the most STUPID THING you can EVER do... if ppl wanna cheat they go n play singplayer instead...there's no point in rigging a Sunken map! WHY THE HELL WOULD ANY1 do that?!? you're playin TOGETHER WITH OTHER PLAYERS AGAINST A COMP! it isnt fun to play the map if you know you'll win, and if you are out to get wins you'de create a easier map with instant win trigger...I SERIOUSLY doubt that any1 would RIG sunken...maybe edit it (I did that ^^ ) or make it easier...but not RIG it...maybe they'll use SCU to rig maps were you actually play AGAINST other ppl...that would make sense but NEVER sunken -.-
and rigging maps is just another way to cheat (like maphack, just worse) ... you can avoid it pretty easy

I dont give a crap about 56k users...and this forum isnt supposed to think of 56k users when writing new rules either...and saying that SCU is crap cuz its mean to the poor 56k users is...well...not a good argument :p

The book was a metaphor.
To symbolize hard work being stolen from you. If you had the least bit of intelligence you would have figured that out already.

Your basing that on pure opinion.
I can give you a copy of a rigged map if you like. And it actualy was a rigged sunken.

-No big deal for me atleast
No big deal for you? What about others. Yeah this forum doesnt have to care about 56k, but battle.net does, some game hosts do, and sometimes you, if your playing a game with a lagger.
Not a good argument? Go ask someone on bnet if they like downloading a map everytime they join a game.

I accept that people use SCU, because that is what this whole thread is about. People who use scu, who want to discuss it freely upon this board. Lets think. What are you fighting for?

The only thing that your fighting for is direct links, and uploads. Hmm, lets try private messaging.

Did you just totaly disregard my post? That was full of arguments, but no, because your post is mainly about mocking my replys.

What i meant was that you giving me your map, that you have spent 7 days on it, and that me stealing it, would be simulating what SCU is promoting.

10 way defense is a bad choice for this. There are many great 10 way defences based off the original (I think it was sunken Defense), which include 10 way Dragoon, Cannon, Marine, Firebat, and almost any other unit you can think of, defense. Maybe some were protected (Like Marine 10 Way Defence Perfection) but the first ones were not. And I don't think SCU was used on these maps, my personal opinion.

umm.. ok there ARE newbs that come to this forum.. it is well known and newbs are likely to drop by.. and lucky for them they cant get to the unprotector link because they are all deleted..

i was a newb.. so were all of you.. we all wanted unprotectors to check out how to do triggs AND ALSO TO WRITE OUR NAME ALL OVER IT SO WE COULD BECOME POPULAR, when we were newbs..

newb or no newb it IS wrong.. what i do not think is wrong is to look at the trigs but NOT stealing.. and no newb could ever think of not being able to steal a map.. (although wen we were newb, there were no unprotectors) same thing.. we lived with it. Nobody quit SC because there were no unprotectors. Privacy should be kept and if at all possible there should be a program like this (SOMEBODY HAS TO MAKE THIS PROGRAM):

You could check off options below:
1. Protect entire map
2. Protect triggers
3. Protect mission briefings
4. Protect map properties
5. Protect unit properties

and all the options (except for #1 would be protected) if someone could make a unstoppable unprotector, then it is possible to make an unstoppable protector.. but then they would both equal out ..

SORRY FOR THE OFF-TOPICNESS ABOVE..

i am for both sides or you could also say neither.. if somebody would have a question on how to do a certain thing in the map, contact them if at all possible. if they dont have a contact or dont want to share the wealth, that is where the unprotector kiks in OR the find out for youself kiks in..

Every reason I've seen for unprotecting maps is weak as hell, and I wouldn't consider it good enough to justify one of my 3+ months-in-the-making maps getting stolen by some aznSSJSquall_Cloud543 on US East and having him get all the credit thank you very much. I usually release my maps anyway as unlocked, so its not much of an issue with me, especially since I have a few tricks to watermark them in case they were stolen, and also that everyone for who it matters would recognize they were mine anyway.

If you want to learn a trick from a particular map you should learn to ask for it or try actually reading about it where its (more than likely) to be already discussed to death elsewhere instead of getting used to ripping the person's map who made it, which if you're a newbie only allows you to do a rough cut and paste of what he did (if thats your intention) instead of actually getting to understand it and incorporating it in your own original form yourself. It kind of goes along with cheating, except in the map making context. Sure, its easy, but it ruins it for everyone else. I would be more upset with this now if clokr_ wasn't making a new protector, so my kudos goes to him. But that still doesn't do much for the hundreds (thousands?) of older maps that are all open game to being ripped now.

Archn you wanna challenge anyone to a map making contest to make your point, then try me sometime! I seriously think you should do the right thing and get rid of the download for an editor that isn't even yours to begin with, at least to try and stop this from getting any worse than it already is. One of my friend's maps got stolen a few days ago and released before it was finished, which isn't so much a problem since the finished version will be a lot better, but now a lot of people will only have seen the unfinished leaked one credited to the person who stole it instead of its rightful maker. Hide the facts all you want, its still stealing, and its still wrong.

Here comes the weird-ass opinin of some other guy:

You might be refering to stealing a map not unprotecting it, huh?

:unlucky

Yes, and so is ladder all the other hacks just as wrong as the unprotector.

So why is unprotector any worse then any other hack discussed here? ;p

The only way to justify it would be to shut this part of the Starcraft forum down.... but we don't want that, this forum is in high demand. The only other way then would be to ammend the rule on unprotector.

Either that, or have veteran members argueing about the rule whenever a new-registered-member comes here asking about the unprotector.

No arch I dont have a sc unprotector, I dont even have the war3 unprotector. I had them on my computer for all of 5 minutes that it took to get them up onto my ftp and then delete them
You had THEM? So SCU is on your FTP? Well that's good to know! You're one of us! j/k

I bet everyone who is against SCU has used SCU and has enjoyed it.

It's also funny how BoredNerd went from being on my side on SCU to being on Tronga's side. You thought Heimdal's lackeys were the last we would see. And the lackeys have all left. I don't think being a lackey is the best solution, unless you have a death wish, and want to be flamed so bad, that you stay out of this section.

I don't protect most of my maps because I do a good enough job of distributing them so that stealing isn't so much of a worry. I'm not saying it can't be done though, but it wouldn't be as easy as changing a few briefing names and some ending credits mind you. I do believe in open source, so I want people who are curious to look at the triggers, since a lot of what I do isn't readily available to get help with in the forums and such. That and most of my maps to date haven't become mainstream popular (shit) maps like the bounds and defenses have, so short of a determined, multi-person theft effort I really haven't cared so much to lock them.

However I do lock some of my maps, and my Kill Me movie will probably be the last one I release as unprotected, because I plan on releasing some more mainstream maps that people would have more of a reason to steal, so for that I would appreciate not having to fight to keep my work safe, as much as I already try to keep it secure anyway short of locking.

The main reason I'm upset over this is on behalf of some of my friends whose maps I keep seeing released under different names with only a few minor things changed. You know the story. They don't always go to the lengths I do to ensure their stuff won't be so easily ripable, and I really don't want to think they should have to, but alas...

SCU is only a threat to maps that are famous or well made. I doubt that include your maps. Therefore, your maps are safe from thieves.
That's why BlackZeroX doesn't hold grudges when his maps do get stolen. He knows he's a good mapmaker, and the people that are important to him (his friends) know he made it too. That's all that matters. Fkk what everyone else thinks.
(Hands Archn a grammy award.) Wait, no, give me that back. So every map maker is just like BlackZeroX? Every map maker doesn't care if their maps are stolen? Every map maker just want their friends to know they made it? Then why does every map maker bother putting their names in the credits?
I bet Trongamonga even has SCU on his computer. Who wants to take this bet? All the other mods and nonmods have it...
What's your point? They aren't exploiting and spreading it from what I gather.

That's one of the worst aruguements I've ever heard.

"Some people think books can be compated to maps that take 10 years to make...IT IS A BOOK, AND EVERY SINGLE IDIOT CAN WRITE BOOKS WHO THE HELL CARES IF YOU STEAL CREDIT FOR A BOOK?!?"

I hope your smart enough to see the parallels. It seems you've run out of things to say. I suppose you're going to respond to this by saying "Nice post"?

If you don't like the rules of this forum, you can just leave. No body is forcing you to stay here. The moderators are not controling you and telling you to stay under this "tyranny." You don't have the power to change the rules, don't bother with it. This is a not a democracy. But again, you don't have to stay here if you want to. If you want to, then you will abide by the rules of Battleforums. I don't even like the idea for a forum dedicated to StarCraft hacking. I hate cheaters and therefore hate maphacks. But do you see me complaining?

If the members let the mods make inconsistant rules.... then the mods will feel free to make more inconsistant rules.... and before you know it.... one game forum has more advantages to the other.

I love battle forums, but I expect each forum to conform to one standard... so its fair to all the games, and they aren't doing that.
You just made mods feel like sheeps... Anyway, as Battle Staff of the SC forums (that's my answer to yours "Tronga's a noob mod"... I'm not a mod, I'm more than it.), I can create a rule on the forums. SC posters must obey to BF rules, but private rules can be added.

If too many rules cator to another game.... then many people won't stay here, cause nobody wants to go to a place where all hacks are forbidden for a certain game.
Fortunately, not everyone is an hacker :)

Starcraft doesn't have an advertising section. It would be a waste of time for him to post in the general advertising section, nobody whos interested in websites geared towards starcraft hacks goes there. They always come here.
Yep, that's what the Hacking sections are for. To keep the advertising forums clean :)

In closing, I don't understand why they're so anal towards SCU. A hacks a hack.
* Map hacking is wrong
* Stack hacking is wrong
* Mineral hacking ~was~ wrong
* Drop hacking is wrong, stealing maps is wrong, spoofing another player to say "im a queer" is just cruel
* Stealing the CD keys of people who paid their hard earned cash and then posting them here is wrong
* Using the ladder bot is wrong because it destroys the whole purpose of the ladder. The ladder was built so people could play others with a simular skill level (aka rating) and that has destroyed it.
* Stealing the map someone made is wrong, just like the points mentioned aboved. It's no more or less wrong then the above. In fact, it doesn't affect anyone but the author of the map, therefore I'd say the "drop hack" causes more damage then SCU

The difference is, SCU can help people learn... so it can have a postive use.... and yet... map hacking and the others have NO good use whatsoever other than to ruin the game and give an unfair advantage. So why they picked SCU is simply beyond any logic I can make out of the matter

I dearly hope someone see's my logic. I know archn does.... why don't the rest of you? I mean if the moderators are filtering out whats right and wrong morally... then they might as well remove the hacking forum altogeather, because... all the starcraft hacks are wrong.... morally AND in the court of law

I personally don't think my post here today is a flame at all, but yet, a search for information. Information as to why if we must jump into morals of others work... why we don't jump into the morals of people cheating and destroying the game as well.

Can you tell me that map hacking is any better then stealing a map? Giving someone the ability to know exactly what strategy their opponents going to do, by looking at the buildings they've made and/or the units they've made.

Seems like map hacking ruins the purpose of a "Real Time Strategy" much more then a map unprotector ever could hope to do.
[/B]
[/quote]

Well, basiclly put, it's like this: Hacks are there to destroy the work of someone that was paid to do the game, but, nevertheless, they are still known as being the game makers.

SCU, even though it may teach people to make maps (hold on a sec, hacks can also teach people to play...), it can as well be used to steal the work of months of someone, that was not even paid for it. It's very different to be paid for something and do it voluntarely.

Drop hacking is wrong. I don't think it's used much because of the protection that is available, but I also believe that people don't load drop hack protection, because they believe it causes lag, and they don't want to be bothered. However, if we could make it load in the background when Starcraft was launched, automatically, then more people would use it. Stating that because protection is available that it kills the problem is simply not good enough. That's why there's so many pregnant teens. Sluts (starcraft users) don't bother with condoms (protection), and so they get pregnant (dropped). Their boyfriend usually drops them once they find out ;-).

Stack hack is wrong. Putting 60 cannons along the perimeter of your base, especially in a island map, means that nothing can get in. You can be alerted, but this doesn't stop them from doing it. It doesn't help you, by knowing, because it will already be done. Yes, units can counter this with range and splash damage. Terran has siege tank, Zerg has guardian, and Protoss has the reaver. Without those units, a great stack can stop anything else. If it is an island far enough from other land, Terran can't do anything except a yamato gun, which is pretty useless against a stack. Protoss can't do anything, except use a lot of disruption web, but usually if I were on an island I wouldn't stack 20 on one square unless it were a major major money map. And this only deals with protoss cannons. What about Zerg stacking hatcheries for easier access to larvae? The point is that this is an unfair advantage, and is wrong, unless it is a UMS map specifically designed for a stacked defense.

Mineral hacking is wrong. I don't think I've ever seen a working multiplayer mineral hack, so I can't say anything on this, except that it would destroy every game, UMS or not.

Building off the creep gives Zerg an unfair advantage, and is immoral, and like all third party programs illegal. According to Blizzard's TOS, you agreed not to play, and can suffer legal consequences.

The ladder winbot, completely destroys the ladder ratings. The rankings just means the first 1000 to hack their account. This may look cool, but is very sad.

The regular winbot destroys the whole purpose of a record. The same with comp stomps, but much more severe. In compstomps, we're talking 200-0-0, and Winbots are more like 2000-0-0.

Impersonators are by every means immoral. You don't like it when people make you say "im gonna bs you", so why do it to them? Protection is available, but people like BCC100 are stingy, and don't care about the rest of the community. Protection does not kill the problem. Do you think sending virus messages is moral?

There is so much I could say, but then I couldn't make my point to someone who has a rebuttal. SCU does not kill maps, but it helps others make new maps with those techniques. I would always give out maps that I worked on unprotected to anyone who asked. Of course I used a protected version as my main release, but anyone wanted to see my triggers to a map like monopoly was allowed to. I wasn't afraid people would steal that map which I spent a month on. I just trust people, and if it was stolen, I would know in my heart that I made it. That's why BlackZeroX doesn't hold grudges when his maps do get stolen. He knows he's a good mapmaker, and the people that are important to him (his friends) know he made it too. That's all that matters. Fkk what everyone else thinks.
Assuming everyone is like BlackZeroX is assuming like every muslim is like Saddam... God save us all...

Anyway, I had write a lot more the other time, but this crap got deleted :(

So, some things are missing here...

For the simple example of Tic Tac Toe, he can make a good one for SC in 45 minutes, whereas a good one for W3 would take him an hour. Try multiplying the complexity of the map exponentially, if making a bound, or something like connect four, chutes and ladders, or monopoly. If Warcraft three can allow you to see stuff, then that is far worse than silly ole' SC. Sure, Starcraft maps can take a lot of time, but the same points of reason are being said over and over. Basically SCU is a great learning tool, is pro SCU and SCU allows map theift and there is a board for people to ask questions, is against SCU. People will not change their minds. I bet Trongamonga even has SCU on his computer. Who wants to take this bet? All the other mods and nonmods have it, like Forged and WingZero, and the other regulars. The only one who doesn't have it is Bolt_head. :p
I'll take it, I guarantee you that I don't have it. You can come to my house and try to find it. I'm not hypocrit, my friend.

The thing is that I can't do a thing on WC, and I've asked. Oh, believe me, I've asked WC's Battle Staff to remove them. He didn't... Up to him...

It's just that "im da natzi so you godda do whad i say" is such a lame argument compared to opinions supported by facts and reason.
You, my friend, are going to tell me one single time that I've said that.

Even a few of the mods agree, its a stupid rule.

Alas, tronga monga seems runs this forum though, so we have no control whatsoever.

I wish he ran the WC3 forum instead of the starcraft forum. Oh well.

Just remember, the forum members have the ultimate control at the end of the day. Without members, theres nobody to post! ;-)
Many users here don't get out of Hacking SC... There's an world outside this place.

some stupid ppl here (dont saying any names ;) ) think maps can be compared to books that take 10 years to write...IT IS A MAP FOR A COMPUTER GAME AND EVERY SINGLE IDIOT CAN MAKE MAPS WHO THE HELL CARES IF YOU STEAL CREDIT FOR A SC-MAP?!? not saying that stealing credits is ok...it's not...but whining around cuz you dont want your maps to get stolen is even more silly than actually stealing a map :p

SCU learn noobs to make maps
SCU -CAN- be used to steal maps
Big Deal? No.

:madatu
You, my friend, never made a real map :)

From the whole beggining, I mean.

#1 stealing a book is completely different then stealing a map, because a book is copyrighted, and the writer makes money from it, not like a SC map.
That's why when you plagiarize a book you go to jail, and when you plagiarize a map, the worst you can get is a ban from b.net...

Hmm, I am forgetting some things, but I just don't feel like writing anything else...

And StarFish, try doing the quotes like I do, the way you post your answers is hard to read :)

Im sry...too damn lazy lol :p
And you are ALMOST right, I never ever made a map from the beginning, untill now ;)

Nice post ( Gottcha! :p )

Though Ive heard worse arguments myself, but now we're in that book thing again. I'll explain it nice and slowly for you...AGAIN...

StarCraft Map
A book

SC-Map = A book ???
Answere: No.

I hope you are smart enough to understand that there is a major difference between a book and a map, yes in both cases you DO the same thing: steal, but the thing you steal is different (Big difference by the way!). Seems like you've run out of smart things to say. I suppose you're going to respond to this by saying "Meh iS t3h haXors".

j/k ;)

Jesus Christ Starfish, can you recognize a metaphor when you see one? Ive told you this already.

-Try to stay friendly, I knwo you indent to go "lol nOOOb pwned!" but OF COURSE I understood that, just trying to mkae clear ppl are only stealing MAPS
And i dont nessesarily use the word "n00b" and "pwned" so your ok, dont expect that degrading vocabulary from me.

I'm not disobeying the rules... I'm encouraging members to stop supporting the rules.... and not neccesarly for them to disobey the rules either... but rather not respect the rules in question.
Ok, with that knowledge, lets disobey or stop "supporting" the rules how we feel. Without rules, we might as well climb the trees and fling our crap at each other.
BARBARIANS.

Once again, i will attempt another metaphor. For those of you who cant comprehend a single metaphor, this last part is not for you. Dont say, Who wants that? That wont happen? Sc Map=book? None of that.
METAPHOR. Ok lemme see...
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Think of SCU as a gun. None of which the magnitude of it should be considered, but the basic point.
Gun.
Can be used for protection.
Can be used for taking the life of another.
Think of the protection as "learning."
Think of taking the life as "stealing a map."

There is laws banning the guns in someplaces, and some others not. But the fact is, guns are used for killing.
If you see someone carrying a gun, other than a law officer, would you be scared? Or would you think, oh! thats just for protection, no way would he shoot that at my face.
Would you allow people to walk around with guns, even though there used for "protection"(learning) or would be-rid the world of guns, murdering, crime?(stealling maps).

Ive never supported the SCU, but all that flaming that was taking place. It pissed me off, how this subject, has gotten so many people on your bad side, as well as other people's bad side. I wish to NOT be one of these. Ive never even known Tronga's decision about this issue. Ive read his rule, but did not think it was his, but someone like Dman. I didnt even know that Tronga was a mod in this section. Therefore, im not on his "side".

I just wish that you understand the intensity of this issue. I support the part about how it can be educational, but, the issue of how it can be used for evil is overwhelming.
There is an UMS section, were there are very knowledgeable people in that section, who can be willing to help you with your questions, just as this forum.
I am neutral.
What would you choose?
Education? or Stealing?

Just for the note (again): I am not a mod on this forum, but I am the Battle Staff (it's someone responsible for a part of the forums) of SC.
