Problem #1:

As of late, a lot has been going through my mind.

I would talk to my friends about this, but they are never serious with me, and I would talk with my parents, but they give me the same load of bullshit every time.

So I ask you, my friends here at BF, to hear me out, and perhaps help me.

I planned this big old scheme of my life out..

I was going to get out of high school, take a year off, then goto college to get a degree for video game design..

Well, now that I think of it..I see so many ways of this not being able to work out.

I really wanted to get into game design, it's always been a passion of mine.

Well, in Ohio, there aren't any gaming companies, that I know of at least..

I would have to move out of state just to persue my career.

I really don't want to do that, because a bunch of my friends and I wanted to buy a big house together..you know like 6 friends paying rent for a big nice house..that's awesome.

Now I have my doubts about my future.

I was thinking of doing freelance GFX for companies, etc, but that may not work out for the best, and even if it does it will be slow.

So this brings me to not wanting to goto college, but with no path to follow if I don't go.

I know and understand that this is my decision to make, but I was hoping maybe you guys could help guide me..

Ok, that's problem #1.

Problem #2:

Me and this girl in my school really like each other, and we hang on each other, etc all the time..I got to the boob touching base with her, whatever that base is..but hear me out before saying why not the whole thing.

She has a boyfriend. He is 25 and in the army. Big problem.

He is in Cali for 6 monthes, he's in the army.

She doesn't know whether to be with me or him.

She wants to talk to him and see where their relationship is going..

I soo want this to happen, us that is, and I dunno if it will or not.

I guess I am asking what you think about this, rather than help with it..

So ya, I appreciate all the help you give.

Btw: anyone that so much as attempts to spam this thread..I WILL delete the post, I don't give a fuck if I get in trouble.

I would sugest going to a community college for a few years after highschool and seeing if you still want to be into gaming design, as for your senario I had a similar one planned but it didn't work out. I hate the guy now....

The girl thing, well if you are under 18 it doesn't matter he can't touch you, but that is umm really creapy

O yeah its 2nd base.

If you are serious about becoming a GFX designer most likely you will have to move out of state. Also you will have to get good with a lot of 3d software.

2:

Rule of thumb:

Do not EVER ask for girl advice on a videogame forum filled with minors, who have not been in a relationship.

Lol, that second part wasn't for advice, it was just for your input.

I really don't want to move out of state though, that would suck..

Your still young, If you do go to college it might turn out that you no longer want to be a video game designer, yet maybe something in a related field but doesn't require you to leave. I was concerned about leaving PA to go out of college but i'm going to go to Penn State Behrend and then look for a computer career somewhere.

About the girl, be patient, "good things come to those who wait" i know u think that is BS but trust me if she doesn't see it your way there is always college to find girls. You have 4-6 years before your going to be done and or have a gf your main concern is just be focused one where you'd like to go and who you'd like to have as friends gf's along the way.

Problem 1:

I hope to do that house renting thing too. :)

Problem 2:

What is she doing with a 25 year old anyway? I am assuming she is the same age as you (16-17?).

She'll probably see that the 25 year old isn't right for her someday (hopefully soon for you) and then you're all set.

One of the more painful things in life is to move on. To me your first year of college is a much bigger accomplishment than high school nay your first semester. You will have to make a choice that is best for you. If you get that house with your friends, what then? As cruel as this sounds if you try to hold on to the fun times you had in high school you will be left in limbo. Everyone will leave you behind, because they have to do what's best for them. This is an extreme, but it is a risk. Remember the past fondly, but don't try to live it.

Get an education. If you feel that becoming a programmer will make you happy go do it. I gurantee everything will change, and if you don't push forward you'll be left behind. It all comes down to this. You have to do what's best for you. What you do now may decide what you do with the rest of your life, so choose what will make you happy.

As for the girl situation. Watch out, you may get burned. You may get sex too though.

Ya, I was planning on living with them until we would all eventually move on..why not keep the fun going for as long as possible? :p

I still need a path though, I can't just goto college, I have to have something to do while I'm there..

Is there anything graphics related that can be done in my own home besides the freelancing?

Consider your own future before your friends. That sounds like an asshole thing to do, but you lose track of around 95% of your high school friends, I'm being serious. Of course, like me, you may find that that isn't what you want to do with the rest of your life. If you are wanting to do anything in computers, or anything specialized for that matter, you may find out that your niche in life isn't where you thought. The majority of people going into those kinds of fields end up having to move out of state because most of the time you will not find a job where you are. I would suggest going to OSU or whatever your plans were and hope that you find what you are looking for, even if you have to leave. If this girl that you are after is that serious, or cares for you in the slightest, you will find that soon as well. Again, if she cares enough to stay with you for the remainder of your high school career, than more often than not she would respect your decisions and come with you to where you need to go.

As Idefy said you are still young so just see if you will still want to be a gamer desginer by then I am afraid you'll have to move out of Ohio. As for the GFX it might take a while for compaines to notice you skillz so don't depend on that as a full-time carrer. BTW I hope you rent the building, would be ownage :)

Wait tll she knows where she stands is all the adivice I can give.

I was thinking maybe I could convince some friends to move down to Florida with me.

There are some awesome colleges for Video game design in Florida.

Also, my dad lives in Florida, and said I could live with him until I got on my feet if I wanted.

Here are some colleges I found in Florida that would be pretty cool:

This One Looks Interesting

This One's VERY close to my dad's house

I originally planned on doing the whole Florida gig with a friend, but I decided to stay in Ohio..

Well now that I think of it I want to goto Florida again..

What do you guys think?

Problem 1: That's just like me, all of the problems about wanting to stay there and your plans. I would stay in the state and try to succesfully grab a group of people good with computers and try to start your own company, that way you could stay there.
Problem 2: Take here away!;) Depends, just stay away from the boyfriend when he gets back, that is if she decides to stay with you. Good luck on 3rd base!;)

2 things to consider whenever you attempt to solve a problem this big for #1:
1. communication:
Talk it over with people who are able to help such as the school counsellor (at least somebody whom you'll be able to trust and connect to). Contact people who are in the gaming/GFX field and ask questions. Ask your parents what they expect from you. Do as much research as possible. It never hurts to network.

2. obstacles:
If you really want to pursue in whatever you're planning to do, think of the obstacles that are preventing you from going further. Think about solving obstacles first.

As for #2: You're still young and you do not have to have a solid decision at this moment in time. At this stage, communicate with the girl more and be supportive about whatever decision she makes. It's all about mutual agreement.

Whatever you do, remember that you're the one who makes the final decision. Plan what you're going to do in your gap year too. It doesn't hurt to have a little more work experience under your work portfolio either.

Good luck. :)

Dood go to OSU you can meet me there, That is where I am going... Aight but just because you live in Ohio doesnt mean you must have a video game company near you, you can get your degree then move, as everyone else has said you won't keep you hs friends forever.

Problem #2: Can't help you there
