It's a lot more than that dP. I used to think the same thing till I tried to really learn how to play them =\ It's harder than it looks. I still think that a drum set is easier to get good at than a guitar...just because it takes a lot to be awesome...but still.

it takes alot more time to get better at drums.... because you have to focus on more than just 2 things. Where with guitar you focus on 2 things: fret and strumming the strings.

Played both... I got guitar down for the most part in under a year. It was hard but quick. After 3 years, I'm still a crappy drummer.

Drums are by-far the hardest. Its not just hitting stuff once you get past the newbie shit. Each specific drum/cymbal has to be hit the right way, based on the tension and the part to hit aswell. Its a real biotch to get a good sound on fills that require really hast hits. Also, theres way harder rythms than any other instrument/etc. Then again, the common idiot finds it easiest. I've played trumpet, piano, drumset, guitar, and drums are by-far the hardest. If you ask a real musician, drums always are the hardest of ANY instrument. Guitar is hard, aswell, but not as hard.

Dp- Hey, fock you.

Guitar. You need a sense of rhytm for both, but with guitar you need to learn your way around the neck and memorize chords and build up speed, with drums your just hitting stuff, which is a skill you've already acquired.

Of course Bass gets totally over looked in this thread. Real men(me) play bass.

I know you're not supposed to flame outside the asylum, but you're an idiot.

I havn't played set in a long while, and I've been doing Corps stuff more, and concert snare/timps and bellsets, and I'm still known as "one of the best drummers at my school"

Tons of people that I meet through marching bands and corps and such have NEVER attempted drumset, and are INSANE on marching snare or tenors or bass.

So in conclusion, I own you at any type of drumming.

I was talking about a set moron. Percussion and Drumming is different. Mallets, timpini, bass drum, hell even wind chimes gongs and toys or anything you find in a trap box are considered Percussion in general.

You'll never own me at drumming because not only can i play a full 6 or 7 piece set but i can also play any percussion instrument you name. I played the Quads for my schools marching band.

Oh no, 6 or 7 piece...congrats, 6-7 piece if nothing, if you want to be a real set player. Bass drum isn't "Percussion in general" its a drum. Same with Timpani, however mallets, wind chimes and the other stuff is.

Oh, and I'de love to see you play mallets better than me, or quads/snare marching wise...Cause trust me, it would be very hard to top this

Can't everone just get along? lol. I think guitar and drums are pretty equal (never learned drums but have about 20 friends who did) I play guitar and It's tough to get used to using your fingers with bends, slides, etc. but drumming is tough cuz you have to cordinate (did I spell that right?) both hands and feet (I say feet cuz one of those friends plays double bass) so they are about the same difficulty

It depends on how much you want to learn. Different instruments have different learning curves, and not all learning curves are smooth. For instance, a saxophone is easy to play as a beginner, but becomes much more difficult over time when the player must learn to control tone quality and pitch and advanced skills such as growling and vibrato. Learning a trumpet, on the other hand, is difficult for beginners but increasingly easier as time progresses.

Drumming for beginners is all about maintaining patterns and keeping time. Intermediate players need to learn to play fills and such while playing on more advanced drumsets. Advanced players, from what I can tell, do less maintaining patterns and more keeping with the time while backing the lead guitarist with rhythm that evolves with the song. Everyone knows guitar isn't difficult to learn unless you consider chord memorization difficult. Once the chords are down, a guitarist must learn other skills such as finger picking and all those freaky little things you do that make the guitar do cool stuff. Once those are all down, the guitarist learns how to play improv and solos and whatnot.

I'd assume guitar would be more difficult, personally, but I have always been a person who can keep a good beat. If I was put behind both instruments, I'd probably be better on the drums than on the guitar.

Heh...I bet I can impress you on mallets and I only have a year of those up my sleeve ;)

And you meant set, but you said drummer...think about what you post before you post it to avoid such problems.

They're different, not one harder than another.

- Guitar is harder to learn, but way faster if you put time into it

- There is no way you can learn drums quickly, but you can jack-off for most of the time

- Guitars have notes and drums have the equivalent: other drums

- After you learn guitar, theres not much you can do other then perfect it.

- Drums can go on endlessly since there are so many possible setups.

It depends on your personality, really. One is not better than another. Whoa, I changed my opinion rather quickly. Guitar isn't just plucking strings, and drums isn't whacking sticks. Unless you are an ignorant prick, both are hard as hell to perfect. They are way too different to compare ^^;;
