I'm a huge trance mother ****er. Love the shit.

Armin van buuren, paul van dyke, rob vox, marcus shultz. Thoe ones I can remember instantly.

Melo death folows behind that, with dark tranquillity, and in flames.

I think that music is becomeing increasingly repetetive. The more time that passes, the more analogy I see between every song playing and person walking by it. Lately, all there are are prickling electronic beats of *poon-chees*poonchees*poonchees* *biau! biau! biau!*
Bands that try to revive punk: I respect you, but it just isn't the same.
Gothic music: Don't call yourself gothic if you are gothic, just 'be'. Gothic music can come in many shapes and sizes.
Pop: DIE!
Rap: I wish rap lovers would respect other music, and a lot of them don't but most of the just pucker up like rotten prunes when you tell them that it sounds like a couple of guys talking while someone plays the turntables.

No one is trying to bust out anything new, anymore, it makes me sick. The only reason they do it now, is to become famous, meet chicks/guys, and/or get rich.

Now, let's take Slipknot... they have really good songs (Eyeless, Purity, (sic)) but no one knows them. Most of them have heard all of the IOWA album, and then "Wait and Bleed" which is pretty annoying, except for the intro. Then there's "Left Behind" and they're latest video, "Duality". I almost hung myself for a moment. They sounded like a pathetic attempt to sound like Metallica. What I hate the most about it is that everyone says "Yeah, I like Slipknot... 'specially that one song... 'Duality'...yeah..."
---RRRGH! Anywho. What can I do? It's not even a new song. Hmph.

Classical music... there's the Morin Khuur, a string instrument from Mongolia... the saz, from Turkey...the sitar, from India... I like 'typical' classical music too, but not as much.

The Deftones. Those buggers...
They never were a fixed genre. But then again, like Slipknot, make all of their worst songs into videos. The songs don't suck, it's just like, it doesn't feel like anything, you know? Well... except "Be Quiet and Drive (Far Away)" and "Digital Bath" and "My Own Summer (SHOVE IT!)"...But no one knows them and those are VIDEOS.

Nirvana. They were ok, I like them. ("I'm a negative creep and aaah!... Jawny's little girl ain't a girl no more!") ("I think I'm dumb... think I'm just happy... maybe just happy")

Korn. They're good music is dead. I used to like 'em. But their messages have lost meaning.

Godsmack. They are good, but they need to release another album!

Rage Against the Machine. They separated, but RATM is still good. ("This is fo' da people of the SUN!")

------I'm sure I've left out a bunch of them, but really, I'm worried that good music is dying...
very welll said...you left ALOOOOOOT out. Fix please.

And metal is not rock. Your point?
You truly do need to unstaple your eyes. I didn't put metal, because there weren't enough poll options, and yes, actually if something is rock, you CAN'T call it 'metal', but if it's 'Metal' you can call it 'Rock'. Many have different views on what metal is. Yours isn't the only one that counts.

Oh, I know! instead of a stupid poll that shows no intelligence towards music whatsoever, because no matter how you slice it you can't fit all genres of music in to 7 catagories, why not just ask people what their favorite genre of music is! *gasp*!
And then, I'm the one who's being insulted. Christ, didn't you even read my first, post? I was actually trying to point out that music is dying, the poll was just to see if any of those genres, which were only examples, struck anyone as 'good'. But no, oh, no, no. You have to say that I'm an ignorant f***, and this thread ain't worth a sh** and blah blah blah. Slipknot and Metallica are BOTH considered metal by MANY people, but they are VERY different, and they aren't even in the same league. That is why I didn't put Metal, because the category is not stable, and I really didn't want to draw attention to the poll, I wanted to make a point. I guess I've failed, haven't I, if everyone else agrees with your posts.

i chose the rock selection as there was no metal selection but u did have "head-bangy" so i chose that..
some fave bands would include:
lp, slipknot, korn, him, dimmu borgir, demon hunter, in flames, hatebree, marilyn manson, korn, tool, afi, a perfect circle, metalica, orgy, nightwish (thanks to vizjerei mage), tristania, and staind, 3days grace, and cradle of filth, chimaira, and 36 crazy fists.
maybe nirvana would be up there somewhere...

The only view that matters is the view into the music lexicon.

No, I never said that. Metal came from rock. This is a fact. That is the ONLY point of view that is specifically MINE, that I stated here. I never said that that is the only one that matters.
Also, might I add... the one who I originally posted "your opinion isn't the only one that matters" before, called me "Ignorant" because of the things I said. THIS person is the one who is behaving like their opinion is the only one that counts.

your playing around your own words to put yourself on top, that i have noticed.
ok as a musical history lesson here goes:

rock was developed first and influenced bands like lynard skynard and then gave birth to metal, which was like KISS back then, which gave birth to punk and alternative, like REM and ZZ TOP and others.
rock>metal>punk
BUT that doesn not mean that metal is a type of rock and yes it does depend on your point of veiw. i personally think rock is a genre of its own that consists of:
metal
alternative
slow
classical
nu-metal
mainstream
gothic
punk
wave
i think rock is consisted of all of these ad no one band can exactly be called a rock band, as their music is of rock genre but falls under the subgroup of like mainstream-alternative like linkin park would be classified. a rock and roll band but mainstream-alternative.
korn could have been under rock and would have been considered metal, just metal back then.
cradle of filth would be under rock but would be sub-grouped as gothic metal.
