It's illegal because it's copyright infringement, but you can never stop it, why waste the money to try? You can be like metallica and fight to stop one company, and 50 more will sprout up by the morning. There's IRC still, torrents, and various underground p2p networks. There is no stopping it.

Here is a scenario to illustrate my opinion. Imagine you like two songs by a particular group. You're not going to buy a CD just for two songs because it's not worth $20. You aren't going to buy the CD regardless of whether or not you download the two songs. Either way, the industry is not making any money off of you. Korritke, you said you wouldn't steal a car just because you couldn't afford one....So why would I buy a car if all I needed was a tire?
There are sites and companies that will sell single songs for around 69-99 cents a peice. So your logic is somewhat flawed.

Yes, I know that, I was just trying to point out the fact that if you weren't going to buy the CD in the first place, it's not like the company/band is losing money :/

And by that logic your saying it should be legal to go into the store, open a 2 liter of soda, pour yourself a cup and drink it, put back the bottle and not pay, because since you weren't going to buy a 2-liter and only wanted a taste of the soda, it's perfectly legal?

I'm just pointing out the flaws in his logic, not debating the legality or how much bands stand to make/lose from filesharing.

I don't really find it too much of a problem...even if the artist sells 1,000 cd's they should still have enough to live for a while, not to mention the millions in concerts they make. I mean...16 grand divided upon say...5 people, bout 3 grand each, enough to live for a couple of months WITH A FAMILY. Who needs to be rich? I don't want to be rich...

I am neither for nor against it, I collect CDs and games though, which is why I was so hesitant in hacking my ps2 and GCN, but I still buy the stuff I like ;)

Well, I,ve said everything there was to be said, yet this topic is still alive. Oh my, I'll have to strike back with overused rethoric then.

========

You pay 12 dollars for a CD

-25 cents for manufacturing costs

11.75

-$3.50 for the Middle Man (Store you bought it from)

8.25

-$7.00 FOR THE RECORDING COMPANY, including actual recording, labeling, liscensing, and "distribution" of the CD.

$1.25 go to the artist.

Realization that your not supporting the artists, just corporate America: priceless.

If you support a band, go to CONCERTS. They get more pro

Of course it's illegal, but I don't care. You know why? You're just supporting greedy corporations. And how long has it been since the music industry actually promoted an artist with actual talent? Pretty much everything is filled with cookie-cutter rap or pop, and that's not really music, it's all based on research and writing songs that follows a specific formula that the record companies know that people will like. I only buy CDs is the whole album is good, but of course, in today's industry, all you need is 3 decent songs to put on the radio and everything else is just filler.

So your basicaly in for the money, right ? Your asking me, as a fan and a customuer, to worry about, not you making money at all, but just you making even MORE money.
Its just that I never tought your inspiration came from the smell of green paper.
I'm not saying that I do it for the money, but do you think you should get payed for your job(whatever that may be) on monday, wednesday, and friday, but not tuesday or thursday? What about bassists, drummers, and guitarists for solo albums?

They only get paid from cd sales if they only worked on the cd in the studio and did not tour with the soloist. They're getting ****ed out of earnings here too.

well... being that I'm not a 12 year old on this board...

It's great I can hear music, any song, anytime I want.

It's not cool because the song is in my posession, it's cool because I don't have to wait for the radio to play the song. From a buisness standpoint I can understand why the RIAA doesn't like file sharing, they lose money. However, if they would lower prices of CD's and gave me a CD that had 1 good song on it and 15 filler songs from a band, I'd buy the CD.

As it is, usually after I download a song, depending on how many good songs are on an album, I'll buy the album. It's like an unlimited Trial for me. If there aren't enough good songs on the CD... and I don't buy the CD, well... next time maybe the CD companies will think about putting more quality songs on the CD. As it is, I feel I'm the one getting ripped off... not the RIAA.
