Ball is another word for sphere, although it also means the object of a sport, but not always (what do you call it on Hockey, for example?).

We call it ball.
I believe you missed what I was getting at. Unless you just call the ball you use to play "football" a ball. If you call it a football, then what do you call the ball used in rugby? (A football by our terms.) That's what I should have asked. We call it a hockey puck. Where that word came from, I don't know.

a football for football and a rugby ball for rugby around here anyway..

an u didnt really steal the name since were still kind of all using it anyway, u just kinda tried to..

i cant actually beleive this thread convinced someone to join JUST to have another try at us, u guys get so wound up over it, its ****en sad..

To be honest, when we refer to it we usually just call it ball, for all sports. If you need to be more specific, then yeah, footballl ball, or rugby ball, tennis ball, voleyball ball, handball ball.

Mind you, the sport names are a wee bit different, as well as whole grammar, in my country, so it doesn't sound so redundant to repeat the word ball.

know someone whos a die hard fan, seems happy with how things are heading.. im waiting for them to slip up like last season so i can lay into him. Campbells crying about all his ex fans at tottenham booing him whenever he kicks the ball.. pretty funny really he knew he was gonna get abuse..
