Wrestler Benoit found dead with family

FAYETTEVILLE, Ga. — Pro wrestler Chris Benoit canceled a pay-per-view appearance at the "Vengeance" event in Houston because of "personal reasons" a day before he, his wife and their 7-year-old son were found dead in an apparent murder-suicide.

Details of the deaths "are going to prove a little bizarre" when released to the public, Fayette County District Attorney Scott Ballard told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Autopsies were scheduled Tuesday by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation in DeKalb County.

Authorities were investigating the deaths at a secluded Fayette County home as a murder-suicide and were not seeking any suspects.

Investigators believe Benoit, (pronounced ben-WAH) killed his wife and son over the weekend and then himself sometime Monday. The bodies were found Monday afternoon in three different rooms of the house on Green Meadow Lane, in a subdivision off a gravel road about two miles from the Whitewater Country Club.

Ballard told The Associated Press a gun was not used in any of the deaths. But he declined to say how the three died.

"We're pretty sure we know, but we want to confirm it with the crime lab," Ballard said early Tuesday.

Fayette County Coroner C.J. Mowell did not return phone calls. The answering service for his funeral home said he was out of town.

World Wrestling Entertainment said on its Web site that it asked authorities to check on Benoit and his family after being alerted by friends who received "several curious text messages sent by Benoit early Sunday morning."

Sheriff's Lt. Tommy Pope told WSB-TV that the three were found about 2:30 p.m., but he wouldn't release other details.

Stamford, Conn.-based WWE also said on its Web site it had been asked by authorities not to release further information on the deaths of Benoit, 40; his wife, Nancy, 43; and son, Daniel.

Benoit was born in Montreal. He was a former world heavyweight champion, Intercontinental champion and held several tag-team titles over his career. He was known by several names including "The Canadian Crippler."

"WWE extends its sincerest thoughts and prayers to the Benoit family's relatives and loved ones in this time of tragedy," the company said in a statement on its Web site.

Benoit had maintained a home in metro Atlanta from the time he wrestled for the defunct World Championship Wrestling.

The WWE canceled its live "Monday Night RAW" card in Corpus Christi, Texas, and USA Network aired a three-hour tribute to Benoit in place of the scheduled wrestling telecast.

Benoit's wife managed several wrestlers and went by the stage name, "Woman," The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

They met when her then-husband drew up a script that had them involved in a relationship as part of an ongoing story line on World Championship Wrestling, the newspaper said.

Benoit has two other children from a prior relationship.

I find it uncool how he takes roids and ends up killing himself and his family like that.

First Crash Holly, then Eddie Guererro and now this...

And I watch WWE, I totally respected him as a wrestler, even though I knew that it was rigged. And because of that, Johnny Nitro now has the ECW title.

While it's a tragedy that something like this happened, wrestling is still really stupid. Stupid steroids.

"roid rage" is a lame excuse. Steroids can trigger rage, and make someone extremely on edge..but to actually kill someone..especially a 7 year old child..you have to be pretty ****ed up and corrupted to begin with. Also..his "massacre" lasted over a two day period. Steroid rage would not have carried on like that. It would have been a split of the moment reaction.

What I fail to understand is how people can have this attitude where they simply state wrestling is stupid and pretty much have no bases for it. It's the arguement "well it's fake". As if that makes a difference. God forbid you watch something that is staged, as you sit down for your TV sitcoms and dramas. It's live, it pretends like it is real, and that seems to offend some people in thinking that because it isn't real it's stupid.

And for the steroids. I'll give a brief list of the following athletes who are using some form of steroids: The NHL, NFL, NBA, MLB, Any olympic track team: any team in a professional level and below. Wrestling isn't even close to the only "sport" where its athletes are using steroids. The difference mostly lies in the fact a Wrestler is pretty much toned to look ****ing huge and does full body workouts constantly to do so.

@Roach: They were "killed over the weekend", iWho's to say he killed them over a period of time.

Regardless he definately wasn't a stable person.

I find it funny that Vince McMahon (sp?) staged his own death in a Limo explosion, had created a memorial show for himself, and then came on the memorial show saying "just kidding! this is for christ benoit now i'm not dead anymore!" That's just rediculous rofl..he's gonna like go have another limo blow up and everyone's gonna believe it happened XD

The medical examiners recently released the estimated time of death. The mother was killed first..and the son was killed a day later. He then killed himself either that night or the next morning.

For roid rage it is. For them to say it was roid rage, is to say that he went into a psychotic rage without logic or reasoning. That just isn't true. Steroids may have caused rage..but he did it on his own, with his own choices and actions. He killed one..then the next morning killed the other. THEN..the next day, sent a text message to someone with his address, and hung himself. That's way too long for it to be a "psychotic episode" due to steroids...(atleast in my awesome opinion)

It obviously wasn't roid rage. He took the time to place bibles next to their bodies.

Well, my opinion of wrestling is that I think it is stupid. I don't care if it's fake or not. All it is to me is like a soap opera. It's even boring to watch. I used to watch it... in elementary school.

I hope they all RIP.

I don't like wrestling for the following reasons:

1) it's too retarded to sit through

2) it's sweaty guys in little clothing fake fighting

3) if i want to watch a fight I want to watch a REAL fight

4) their fake storylines are so pathetic and stupid they make me want to claw my eyes out/stab my ear drum (or just turn off m tv, which works!).
