If Diablo III needs a story, and if Diablo needs to return They will find a way I suppose.
Watch the post Act IV cutscene more closely. Diablo's soulstone was indeed destroyed.I'm curious as to what the overall story is now...
The Worldstone is gone, and the 3 prime evils are banished. Do we go into hell and fight them again or what...definitely a lot of options here. At most, I don't think it says anywhere explicitly that they destroyed Diablo's soulstone. Baals probably died when Mount Arreat imploded.
It's about Diablo's mum. She got pretty pissed off that we kept killing him and his bros. Stands to reason she got off the proverbial couch and wants to kick some mortal tail.
Considering The Burning Hells are basically the Underworld, I always assumed that slaying a demon sends them BACK to the Underworld. The reason Soulstones were used was to keep their power locked in a controllable place, but it ended up backfiring as they became more of an anchor and a reliable place from which to draw their power should they corrupt the holder and gain possession of the Soulstones.
Hence, the Soulstones were destroyed in order to get rid of that anchor and make it harder for the Prime Evils to remanifest in our world. Even if we slew their bodies, whoever held the Soulstones would be vulnerable to their trickery and run the risk of corruption...becoming their new ticket to appearing in our world. With the Soulstones gone and the mortal vessels killed, the Prime Evils had no real link to our realm and would have to find some other new way to manifest.
But then the Worldstone was corrupted by Baal, so that Tyrael had to destroy it. If I recall the cutscenes and dialogue properly, was the Worldstone not a sort of protective buttress against demonic intrusion? A separator between realms? I seem to remember something said about how with the Worldstone gone, the barriers between realms would fall and who knows what would happen.
If all that was indeed properly interpreted, I can see it as plenty possible for the Evils to break through into our realm provided they had a link on this side...namely the cultists that we've been shown in D3 so far. Apparently they're pretty obsessed with Diablo...the encyclopedia entry on the main site refers to their sacrificial ritual, in which they hammer spikes into their victim's spine...calling the spikes "the Teeth of Diablo." It's these "sacrificed" cultists that are the ones who transform into monsters and come after you if left alone long enough, as you can see in the concept art they have the three spikes in their spines.
It looks like it just cursed most of the northern lands held by whatevers left of the Barbarian clans.destroying the worldstone destroyed the mount areat and caused a mini maelstrom.
heres the d3 map:
Warcraft III got two whole new continents between War II and War I.It looks like it just cursed most of the northern lands held by whatevers left of the Barbarian clans.
And Blizzard is the butcher.Lore is expendible
Be glad it isn't an MMO, all the past stories are flushed down the toilet, like Warcraft's was.And Blizzard is the butcher.
