Mavs set has it's bonuses. Like for an elemental Zon, Mavs is just needed- as opposed to Windforce = worthless.

Mav set = Freezing arrows and strafe and other shitz (pvm)

It depends. If you are REALLY good at not dying with negative resists in hell, people tend to go with uniques for more MF. If people like to stay alive (or low-level mf'ers), they would (or should) use the sets for the other bonuses. That's what I would do, though.
