Lol, if we create an "intelligence" test such as yours, well, our president wouldnt be our president would he?

And there is more then just 1 type of intelligence. You don't need to know numbers on a peice of paper to be considered smart.

I think 17 would be an appropriate voting age because you are (well, should be) pretty mature by then, and if you are old enough to fight for your country, then I think you are old enough to vote. Fighting for your country is also fighting for the leader of your country (or, you should be), and since you can do that at 17, you should be able to choose the leader you wan't to fight for.

Voting Age should be 16.... that seems very reasonable. Because the more votes involved in elections, the more chance to see who people perfer. Though not every single teen pays attention to elections and what goes on with presidents.... I still think this is a good age. Though it should still be 18 for beer and gambling n stuff like that.

Think about it, the parents may pressure them to vote democrat, republican, or what have you. Kids are very gullible, and underestimating that fact can have harsh consequences.
Yes, and you could have children voting the opposite party from their parents.
i say 17. if 17 is old enough to fight and die for this country then its old enough to smoke, drink, gamble, and vote.
You shoudn't really be comparing the voting age to other age restrictions. Personally I think it could be below 16 somewhere, I mean if a kid doesn't give a shit about politics he won't vote but if there's kids that care about what president runs your country and actually does his research then it could be a very good thing. A lot of older people vote for something because their parents did and there's did. So a lot of the time the younger and more easily interested could make the better choice.
It should be increased, the 18-24 age group votes less than any other, why? They simply don't care.
If they don't care then what is the point of going through the hassel of increasing it and you would be depriving the ones who are into politics.
I think that maybe there still should be an age limit of 18 when everyone can vote, but there should be like a test of some sort you could take when your 16 that tests your maturity.
What sort of test? There will be too much hassle, too many flaws in the test, what sort of questions or test? Couldn't someone cheat by just asking how another person did theirs?
Several people from my school have enlisted in the army at 17 coming into their sr. year of hs. They are usally used for recruiting purposes. However if the need arises they can be sent to war.
Hell, in my country it's 16.
I don't think the right to vote should be based off of age. I think it should be based upon your intelligence; iE, people should be given a test that can be graded by a machine. Age is such a vague and indecent way of selecting voters.
Intelligence isn't knowledge, just because your intellgent doesn't mean you can't make a mistake. If you're not very bright but you do KNOW what each party does or is up to, who is the best choice blah blah you could be a better choice than someone really smart. Some one else came up with that idea, a test like that could have too many flaws.
Leave it because at 18 you reached full matrtiy and you can actually examn the candidates and not just think of it as a big joke.
I think children are fully able to examine candidates probally and they can take it more seriously than their elders. There is many idiots that vote over the age limit, why not lower it as only the more interested children will even bother to vote.

The only reason that the voting age was lowered to from 21 to 18 is so that soldiers fighting in Vietnam could vote for their Commander in Chief. Since there are such few 17 years old in the army, and that number its drastically outwieghed by the number of dumbasses in the country, I think the voting age should remain 18.

i still think that if you can fight for your country, you should have a say in your country legally. why fight for "freedom" if you cant even vote for who you want to run the county?

hell, id be for a system where it stays 18, but if your 17 and in the military (or any age tthey let you in at) you should be allowed to vote for serving.

why should you fight for rights that your not old enough to enjoy? why do they let people who are legally considered "children" fight and die for their country?

What would happen? It isn't like the communist party could do anything eve nf they got power. We have a system of checks and balances, communism requires a revolt not just an election.

You can't define age with maturity. I know several 18+ year olds who's brains are like a mush of beans. And there is no way we can have enough votes to over-ride democracy and make Communism.

I think 18 is fine. It shows more mature decisions or ideas. O don't think people at the age of 16 are so interested in politics.Nor are people of 18 but we're talking about increased age, even 20 or 21.

You know the older you are, the more personal experience you get. Thus 16 is too immature number
