Download DirectX End User Runtime from the Microsoft Support site. I personally recommended this be your first action before you install any games. This is different from installing DirectX9 or 10, as this is like an update if you will.k another question. if a game is picky an wants directx 9 instead of 10 can i get 9 without vista complaining?

drgn already explained it on aim. i just ran too many things and hardware couldnt keep up.How did you mess up the OS so quickly on a brand new vista machine anyway?
A lot of people think that, but SP1 Vista makes it a lot more efficent. The only dumb thing you can do on Vista is get the 64bit edition. There isn't many drivers for it, and you swell up the memory you use because of the size of an int (The most common datatype any program uses) is doubled in size. How did you mess up the OS so quickly on a brand new vista machine anyway?
Btw, most new PCs do not come with recovery discs already with the system. Often times you have to order them from the manufacturer or burn them for 2 hours when you first get the system.
Best Solution - Take off Vista and install XP
