zerglings, they are cheap, powerful, and fast. very strong, very quick.
24 lings vs. 12 hydras, the hydras would win, only a few lings would get close enough to attack.

it all depends who has the grreater micro, and i say lings have better micro, they are faster, and with the metallic boost, they would rape hydras.

OK, think of it this way...
  • 3 Crack/Zerglings equate to 1 Hydralisk (In terms of minerals, because Lings don't cost gas).
  • Crack/Zerglings are built faster than Hydralisks.
  • The Crackling rate of fire is incredibly fast that even 24 Cracklings would own 12 Hydralisks. Even though the ratio in terms of cost is unfair for the Cracklings.

They have one major flaw, they can't hit air :p
Yes but 1) You said cost efficient not a 1v1 scenario 2) lings cant hit air 3) in numbers the zerglings will have to move to each individual hydralkisk + have room to surround it, where's the hydralisks can hit any zergling from any spot within a generous range. In enough numbers hydras > zerglings, not to mention they can hit them from a hill.
