...in the Newdow case against the phrase "Under God" in the Pledge of Alliegence. They claimed that since Newdow didn't have full custody of his daughter (because he was suing on her behalf), that he couldn't sue for her.

This means that "God" is still in the pledge, and the Supreme Court dodged a major issue. Either way the Court ruled, they be condemned, ridiculed. Accusations of "judicial activism" would be flying. Possible protests and riots.

Pretty damn lucky of them to find that loop-hole. I bet they had 100 ppl goin though the books, lookin for loop-holes.

So what side were you rootin for? Me, I wanted to see "God" get the boot. It's not even part of the original pledge. It's nothing more than political propaganda, and kids get enough of that from the tv.

I wanted God to get the boot too. Was Newdow asking for money? If he wasn't, then I don't know why they would worry about finding that loophole. Otherwise I wouldn't see why they couldn't just reason with him =/ Then again...it is the US justice system...and yeah, we are not the best for that one.

I don't really care if "God" is in the Pledge. If people don't like it then don't recite it. I would like to see "God" be taken out of the Pledge of Allegiance, but it shouldn't be a major issue. A lot more problems exist that should recieve more attention.

That's a good point. But for some reason the seperation between church and state has been a big deal as of late. First they took down our ten commandments, now this. I can't wait until they completely erradicate it, it makes school a bad envoronment for those non-christians.

The "under God" part of the Pledge of Allegiance has never bothered me nor any of my peers who weren't Christian. A lot of people don't actually care about the Pledge of Allegiance anymore. Just stand up and pretend to care, recite it without any emotion whatsoever. The only place where the "under God" part would create a bad environment for non-Christian children is in Catholic schools, and there aren't too many non-Christians in Catholic schools.

i couldnt care less. i dont believe in any god, but i dont get offended by it being in the pledge or anything. god may exist, he may not. i dont care. him benig ni the pledge is just a part of it to say you love your country. i dont mind sayin it, just like i dont mind folding my hands and puttin my head down when a freind or family says gace before thanksgiving or on sunday or sumthin... just because i dont believe doesnt mean i can be diserspectful to my family and freinds.

Is the pledge of alliance that. thing you say before everything you do, like in school, where 2 years old kids are forced to do that kind of thing?

It is the pledge that pisses me off, not the fact that is says god in it. god is a fitting symbol for our country, when someone pissess us off we kill them, much like god. 0)0

Yea, Tranga, that's the Pledge. And they don't start saying till they get into school, when they're about 5 or 6.

The word 'god' has always been in the pledge.

No. The original pledge (written by a Babtist minister, IIRC) did not include the words, "Under God". "God" was added in '54 to stick it to the Atheistic commies. Political propaganda.

Adding a religous word to the constitution is not propaganda. It's being religious. This country was basically founded under god anyways.

No one cares... this "under God" is retarded and I can't believe these people are making a fuss about such a small little thing. People like this piss me off.

Just imagine if these guys went around saying "Christmas" shouldn't be a national holiday anymore. People will just hate them. Like many of you have already mentioned, if you don't want it, simply don't say it.
