Whether it's A1 merc with Faith/Bramble or A2 might merc with Pride/Bramble... it's gonna be OWNERSHIP regardless, provided you have enough +skills.
My summoner build does not include the use of a HOTO, so my only suggestion here is that you include a wisp ring. Drop an soj/bk and provide your boys with a lvl 2 oak sage (+35% life).
Personally, I go with the A2 merc. Might + Concentration + Thorns + Oak Sage = Lordship of all the lands. :loopy
