In a rush to play some Dawn of War: Dark Crusade with Renzo, so I'll keep this brief.

There's two main problems I see to something like this:

1) How are you going to sell something like this? What kind of pricetag is 800 years of life worth? I'm sure the poor aren't going to get anything as wonderful as this *if* it ever became a reality. There'd be way too many issues over just that one factor alone for something like this to be publicly available.

2) Saying something like this began getting marketed on a mass scale, after 20-30 years of less and less people dying, we're going to begin facing some serious overcrowding issues... as if we aren't already facing that.

id love to live for a couple hundred years....see my great great grandchildren....see so many things, and see the world change
Or explode in fiery chaos cause of human greed.

One perosn I know wrote a story, which got published with mine about the future of the race being destroyed because of human's strive for power (wars, a virus killing most of humanity, alien technology being exploited). It was quite interesting to read.

How about this. If the thesis statement contains the word "conceivably", it isn't news.

Issues:
Longo's group put baker's yeast on a calorie-restricted diet and knocked out two genes - RAS2 and SCH9 - that promote aging in yeast and cancer in humans.
The ability to knock out genes in a human and not cause the entire genome structure to collapse is at current impossible, if we knew how to do this we could stop tumors from growing, hair from losing its color and falling out. They haven't actually made a discovery here.

Also, maximum life span in humans has remained 115-120 calender years throughout recorded history, despite steady improvements in life expectancy. Maximum life span correlates negatively with antioxidant enzyme levels and correlates positively with lower rate of free-radicals production and higher rate of DNA-repair. These are all things that degenerate within the human body that we have ZERO control over whatsoever, regardless of calorie intake. Calorie restriction intake has been proven to increase mean life-span, but not maximum life-span. At a certain point, the DNA structure begins to unravel. Right now, we can't stop it.

What you guys fail to realize is that we could already know all this ****. What makes you think the goverment would release info on a subject like this? hell we probably have the cure for cancer aids and mild stupidity but that doesn't benefit the gov. I doubt they'd ever release it.

pft...they make money from cancer treatment, thats why we'll never see a cure...and they make money from anti-aging products, but not enough to stop an life extending product

The government has almost absolutely nothing to do with cutting edge research, they're too scared of all the legal technicalities to pour any large amount of money or time into anything that is massively life altering. (notice that because some people believe the last unsequenced portion of the human genome contains the mapping of the 'human soul,' the government refuses to fund continuing research)

Do a little research on a man named Craig Venter. He is the future.

Yes, but imagine how much MORE money any one company would make if they had the ability to say they alone had the copyrighted synthesized cure to cancer. There's a reason companies like HealthCare and Celera and PerkinElmer pour hundreds of millions of dollars into genomic research(mostly by the means of the NIH), and I guarantee you they're not philanthropic reasons.

In case you have been living under a rock for the last 60 years, you should have realized that the government no longer holds as much weight as it did back in the years of World War II. Even in terms of military weaponry, as your toted 'operation paper clip' entailed, the research is although sometimes funded by the government, done entirely by civilian contractors. Ever heard of Raytheon? Boeing? The government does not personally conduct extensive research anymore, they only fund it. Therefore, it easily becomes public knowledge. Therefore, yes, they are extremely apprehensive about public image.

You conspiracy ****s annoy me to no end, did you even graduate high school?
