Grieving, your opinion is worth about as much as a dog turd :p unless you actually play an instrument, or have put out some kind of cd yourself, you can't talk shit period. You can not make a statement stating a band sucks, when in fact they have made more money than you ever will, due to their 'sucky' music. It obviously didn't suck, or they wouldn't still be here. Now, please take your 'opinions' elsewhere untill you have had at least 5 years of experience in the matter. kthxbai.
I don't have my own CD. I don't play an instrument. Metallica still sucks.

He does play an instrument and as do I. I still think they suck. Have I made a cd? no, however I can still say they suck because it is their job to try to sell themselves to me. and just because you play guitar or whatevr doesent make you some music god, music is still music.

I'm not saying that they don't have musical tallent..they probably do. What I am saying, however...is that in MY OPINION...they suck. Vocally, they suck. Lyrically, they suck. I hate their overal sound. There is no fact...nor fiction in it. It's simply an opinion, and I don't need 5 years in the music industry to state it. Deal with it.

you just stated the point im trying to get across. That there is no fact or fiction to it, but they do have talent and obviously have done something right. And Thistle, I don't just play guitar. I have studied music for a long time, i've taken AP music theory, music theory, classes on the form and structure on almost every kind of music you can name, improv classes, and I can recognize talent and good writing when i see, as far as the music itself goes, so suck it :p

I dont care if you are a music geek, I play what I like and I think sounds good. shove your theories and crap up your ass. Music is whatever it means to you, I think it is wrong to put boundaries on it.

whoever said there was a boundarie on it? it is limitless, to an extent, but to think anything else is just ignorant. and just because you don't like something doesn't mean other people don't as well.

I belive that Metallica was gods gift to man. But i also see where roach is coming from. everyone that says metallica sucks is not saying that the BAND is crappy, just that they don't like that bands sound. Its VERY different then saying they're a bad band. Chill out shadow.

I've played the drums for more than 8 years. I've been in numerous bands, and I'm in one now that is actually going somewhere. We're signed by Jive (which doesn't really amount to shit if you ask me) and we're trying to press our CD (13 tracks, 4 of which I wrote the lyrics to) for release by the end of novemeber. I'm also planning on going to school to become a band professor for a college, or a band teacher for H.S.

I think Metallica sucks. Their lyrics are shit, their drummer sucks, they've changed band members so many times. They're nothing but a buncha drunk heroin addicts, and the only people that like them are other drunk heroin addicts, or little kids that think it's cool to like old rock.

Do I need to have anything more "experience" in music, or is that good enough for you

when i say experience, i mean appreciation of the art form, not just the ability to play an instrument. the ability to understand, and comprehend what goes in to the writing process and the structure of a song, not just being able to play a double bass drum, or power chords, or a solo on a harmonic minor scale over and over. Metallica is by no stretch the best in that department (See: Dream Theater) but they were definately pioneers in the stylization of what heavy metal is today. The only bands you could truly say that have not been influenced by them are alot of prog metal bands, or bands that came before metallica (Diamondhead, motorhead, etc.).

Being able to put power chords to a drum beat is nothing new. Being able to understand what your writing means understanding why it works, why it sounds good, what goes into building the chord, when to use a major or minor triad, understanding the order of sharps and flats, understanding why Ami7 should be played after Fma or when to subsitue the root instead for the 9th. It's more than just playing fast notes and being able to play triplets in 4/4 where 1/4 note = 240 bpm. When you really understand what goes into writing a song, then you can write good music. I repsect bands that take the time to realize this and put the effort into writing songs, and not just banging on instruments and playing random frets between 15-24 as fast as they possibly can.

Metallica was awesome before they released St. Anger, but that's a given, I think Metallica should still tour, doing their old songs, no new songs, their old songs will always go down into history, I will always remeber Enter Sandman, that's the song that I will always remeber no matter what happens to them, Seek and Destroy is another one, so many good songs, but they need to go back to their old ways...I think it might be the end of them...it's too bad...

And when did I say my band doesn't know that stuff?

So now you're sterotyping me as a typical drummer that knows nothing of the sort, and can only bash on drums? Grow up, I've been learning music theory longer than you, and I'm going to do something with it in my life, unlike you.
