Anything by Salvatore, Dark Elf Trilogy is one of the best book series i have read, my favorite book by him is "Servent of the Shard", part of the Paths of Darkness quartet.

Anything Dan Brown, Angels and Demons, Da Vinci Code, Digital Fortress to name a few.

Try Steven King's Darktower series as well, The Gunslinger is a great read.

"The Wheel of Time" and "The Sword of Truth" series are both really good fantasy series.

Man Da Vinci Code is awesome, you should definitely read that.

Angels and Demons (the prequel to the DaVinci Code) is better, read that first. Since you asked for a summary....It's about the resurfacing of the ancient brotherhood of the Illuminati and how they're trying to destroy the Catholic Church. There's some interesting stuff in there as well, like anti-matter and ambigrams.

I also liked Lamb, which is about the life of Jesus from the point of view of his childhood friend. It was really funny, with a lot of the same people and stories as in the Bible, except it was actually interesting to read.
