I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I'm going Wii first. I don't trust Sony first generation products. I doubt the PS3 will be a flop. I think it will easily trounce X-Box 360 sales. I believe, however, that the Wii will prove to continue the DS's legacy.
DS has sold over 16 million units. The PSP sales can't even compare at less than a quarter that number. The reason is this. It's an innovative design. Before anybody says a thing, innovative and novel are not the same thing! Touch Screens and Motion Sensing has been around for ove a decade. The use of them in video gaming is, however, new; therefore, it is all innovation.
The Wii is more user friendly. Nintendo is going in an interesting, new direction, and that's why Sony didn't mention them. Nintendo and Sony executives are on, get this people, GOOD terms. They have been for the past few years, not sure how long though. Sony realizes that Nintendo is no longer trying to compete, so their language has completely changed.
In fact, I have a feeling the following would be interesting. Sony has a few second party studios. They could easily register a few Wii games to bolster their brand, and I do believe that could be a deciding factor in selling additional consoles.
I know; I know. Some of you out there are screaming, ready to flame, about how I don't know economics. Don't I? Nintendo has already proven that they can reach out to gamers that have been untapped for years. If Sony can get games on the Wii with their name on it that appeal to this market of gamers, they could well become the desired 'second console' in the household.
I believe whomever rides Wii's potential the best will win the PS3 v. 360 war, and that's the only real war that's going on. This is, truely, going to be an interesting thing to watch. Personally, I want the PS3 second most, after the Wii, because the PlayStation has far more games available for it that I like than the X-Box. I've just gotta wait for a generation or two to pass, a few price drops, and a used one to be available.
