Because you need to manage 3 heroes, 100 food in units, ~2-3 or more gold mines and replace lost units in battle. I have played it before so I know how it works.

Honestly I never get 100 food in FFA, usualy just below high upkeep. That allows much more gold to accumulate.

Yeah, I do that too. Most poeple stay at low and creep at low - no. Then use thier gold when they got like 2000-3000. That way, you can replace your army that gets lost or you can revive your heroes via the tavern.

Also if you get to tier 3 while your first hero is still creeping, he gets more exp from those creeps, something like 30% more than normal. That is awesome.
