Rap != music. Sorry, mike.
Just for sake of arguement, I'll use what you just posted in the Now Playing thread.

It's got a bassline. Do my beats have this? Yes. Check 2.
It's got lyrics (not always in music). Do my rap songs have this? Yes. Check 3.
It's got a drum beat. Do my beats have this? Yes. Check 4.
It's got a begining, middle, and end. Do my beats have this? Some of them. Check 5.
So please, do tell me, what makes your "music" any different than my "music"?
What else am I missing? The fact that with my rap, I don't actulaly have to play the instruments? Oh, well theres that. But then theres the fact that I play it
all out on a MIDI keyboard which I then sequence /edit the wav files on a program (FL Studio, Acid, CuBase, so on and so forth).
So please, do tell me, what makes your "music" any different than my "music"?
Gregorian chant is generally a group of men all 'singing' the same sylable, in various tones/octives/pitches, if not all the same pitch. It was music back then, and it's still music now. Theres a piece called "3 minutes 20 seconds" in which the conductor gets on stage, and begins conducting a piece, yet the band plays nothing. The entire piece is the ambiant noise of the people in the crowd shuffling about, coughing, moving, texting, so on and so forth. Is that music? Yes. It is.
