In theory, communism is one of, if not THE, best form of government. Could it ever work in the real world though?

I don't see the motivation for everyone to work. If I get a share of the goods and am equal, I'm only going to work half as hard as the other guy. Everything is still split evenly, but he has to work harder for it than I do. I see this as one of the major problems of communism.

Could if ever work in a civilized way?

Yeah, its what humans strive for, competition. They have to do better than someone else, or else, someone can work their asses off, and get paid the same as a total stoner. The good person will find out, and begin to slack off. Thats why the protestant work ethic is what founded this country, and goverment.

i think in principle communism is great becasue it is based on the idea tha Everyone WOULD work equally.. however in reality we all know this doesn't happen. look at communist countries. they are all crap.. (haha how was that for a sophisticated statement) no but show me a communist society that works and maybe ill convert. as it is im still scared of "reds under my bed"

You guys need to read "Brave New World." Its based in a utopia where people are brainwashed to think that their status in society is the best.

Maybe we'll all be grown and infatuated with the idea that our jobs are just simply dandy.

In contemporary society, communism does fail, as borednerd and amrtin77 have pointed out. Good idea though. Too bad its initiation caused the deaths of thousands.

the only good thing with communism is that every person is equal.... there are not any rich people which is a good thing because most of the time rich people have more money than sence. take jessica simson for example rofl!! but yet you do not have a voice in the gov...... so that sux.

no i dont think communism will ever work in a civilized way.

Communism is working perfectly in part of the U.S. for all you people who think it will never work out. I forget where it is but its somewhere in the U.S. and everyone is equal. They all share responsibilities, work the same amount of hours and get the same stuff. And I really don't feel like getting into this again but "communist" countries are ruled by dictators who just used the idea of communism to appeal to the poor. Once the dictator got up top they'd start changing the rules of communism. Like if you ever watched the cartoon version of Animal Farm they change the "All animals are equal" rule into "All animals are equal but some animals are more equal" Once that happens or any major change like that it's become a totalitarian government or a dictatorship.

What? America is a Democratic Republic (Constitution based), this is our federal government. You may be thinking of a business of some sort, but not communism. There is no government inside our government like this...

Communism will not work because it is too perfect on paper. The human race is imperfect, we could not survive in a perfect world. We are not willing to share what we earn with others, we are too greedy. It just doesnt happen.

Yea, I would be really surprised if something like this existed, which I doubt.. if your pretty sure that this is true, please host a link or something o_O.

Nice point about animal farm. Communism --> Dictatorship --> Revolution --> Destruction? So basically, communism cant survive as long as it is processed by humans.

communism can work in a small group of people that are not lazy easily. or work ni any society where you throw out any lazy people, or people who refuse to work. if your lucky enouh to have enough true communists that love their job you can run a country on that.... i guess....... but will their kids be the same? its too hard to do.

In a small, idealistic environment, it could work. If a greedy leader like Castro or Stalin was not present, communism could create a great state, as long as it remained contained and resisted the urge to take control of more nations. The more citizens there are in a communism, the more chance there is that some will take advantage of it. This is why a communist state must have all citizens voluntarily go to it and work to create it, unlike in Russia where the power was seized. People knock communism for stalin and castro and kruschev-those are the men, not the system.

There have been countries that called themselved communist, but there has never been a truly communist state. Animal farm isn't really a very good example of communism. Seeing as how it is mostly blatant propoganda about a country that wasn't quite communist to begin with.

Communism ignores that basics of human nature. Greed. It's a survival instinct, really. I'n a democracy, you can work, and be compensatd for that work. You can really succede, and become a millionare, or become the next Bill Gates. Communism doesn't allow that. No matter how hard to work, you're still getting the same ammount of money as the deadbeat down the street. Where's the incentive? Greed is what makes the world go round. Not equality.

Communism now is so warped from what Marx wanted it to be that it doesnt matter how you look at it... To have a truly communist society to work you would need almost a Utopian type of world. Then when everything truly is equal and everybody gets along and realizes they need eachother to live together. Look at countries like cuba that were run by a dictator were taken over by a guerilla army and are once again run by a dictator. however castro had the right idea orginally... and i think cuba would be better if che was still around.

Are you so sure? Have you read the communist manifesto?

I think Spike basically nailed it. Its agreed: communism doesnt work in the contemporary world.

In an ideal world, communism would be the best form of government.

Police activity would be minimal, everyone would have healthy, abundant productivity with few politicans and/or corruption.

We are not in an ideal world however. Greed and corruption grows in the world society's daily. The thought of having equality turns into oppression and the government seizes your possessions and restricts curfew times. The few rich are very very rich, while everyone else lives in apartments and has very little food. This happened in Russia during the cold war, and is happening in China as well.

No chance. People do best when there competing for somthing.
You work harder more efficently. I would slack off if i knew that i could work half as hard as i could and still make same as everyone else.

"Believe what you will but it does exist in a small town."

prove it. show me 1 form of proof, don't make empty claims.
