Two possibilities. It all depends on what error occured, so please be more specific next time. :)

Damaged download
The patch, that you've downloaded is damaged, you need to redownload it. Quite possible with modem users. But read the second advice before redownloading.

Original files not restored before patching
If your current War3 installtion (e.g. 1.13) is already cracked you must restore original war3.exe and worldedit.exe (if also cracked) before applying the latest patch. The patch cannot recognize the cracked files as valid, thus generates errors. In order to upgrade your installation follow these rules:
1. Restore original war3.exe and worldedit.exe. Restored files must much your current version. You can use original v1.07 files with your v1.13 installation - the patching will fail in this case.
2. Apply the patch.
3. Copy the cracked files to your war3 directory.

Always remember to backup the original files. This saves a lot of efforts when it comes to the next upgrading (patching).
Hint: you can rename war3.org to war3.exe to restore the original file. If you didn't crack the worldedit.exe, you got no problems. But if you did, and forgot about appropriate backup, you're in trouble. Gotta find the original file over the net, what actually may be not easy.

Please give more details on the error that occured.

LOL, do as I described in the previous post. :D Is there something that is not clear? And yes, to apply a new patch you have to uncrack your current w3.

Now it's obvious that you're missing the registry settings.

Download the attachment and unzip it to your Desktop. Right-click/Edit and do the following:

1. (optional) if u're running under win9x/me/nt, change the first line from Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00 to REGEDIT4. If you're under win2k/xp, just skip it.
2. use Ctrl+F to find every D:\\War3 and replace it with your path where your War3 is installed (remeber about double! backslashes \\).
3. use Ctrl+F to find K:\\ (just twice) and change it to your CD-ROM drive letter.
4. Save the file, merge(double-click) it with registry. Now try the patch. :)

(To alter the registry file you can use regedit instead, if you're familiar with it.)
