Well you see your history isnt that long. Other more ancient nations had much more war, blood, and suffering on their hands. US is relatively young and for the most part didnt do anyhting that can really be considered embarrasing. So you dropped the nuke, so you took Texas from Mexico, so what? France and England had a 100 year war, Stalin killed millions of Russians he ruled, Germans became Nazis and lost WW2, Huns have completely wiped out the population of Kiev after it refused to surrender to them, French tried to conquer the world, and got their asses kicked by Russia, etc. My nation did things just because it could, things your nation would never do. Our kings burned and barried whole tribes of people alive, because they rebelled, there are many other things, so i really dont get you.

Ok, take the Incas for example. Religion, gold and glory were
the downfall of their entire civilization which, may I remind you,
covered what is today all of Bolivia and Peru, part of Ecuador
and the northern half of Chile. That's pretty big.

Power and bigotry was the downfall of the Nazis.

As for the downfall of poweful nations, most of europe was very powerful prior to WWI. They wanted more though, so they gobbled up every colony they could and squabbled over all they could. Eventually tensions mounted and a spark set off most of europe in war. They all were weakened, and their empires started to fall apart. Many of them were already in trouble due to overextension.

Wanting more than you have leads to destruction. Overextension weakens a country subsantially.
