It's a Tarp!

Guys, we really need to get out of the trap of being a Blizzard exclusive gaming forum. Let's face it, a Blizzard exclusive Battleforums was failing. Miserably. We're not doing much better now, either.

We're going to need to expand to other gaming companies that are actually doing... better than Blizzard is. Such as Flagship Studios. Companies that don't take four years to release a product, nor cancel it when they should be nearing completion.

Most of all, it's time we embrace newer games.

I'm not saying that we should completely dump Blizzard games. They should still have a place but not nearly as big of one. Perhaps a Blizzard section with subsections for each game, once things are forced back into being ship shape?

Whatever. You'll do what you do, and I'll do the same.

The problem here is that there isn't staff dedicated enough to improve the sections we have. Sc2's development has been rather slow as well, the last bit of information that was released was information regarding the Carrier. After that, I haven't seen any new updates.

WoW is moving to the 2nd expansion. Which is probably gonna cause uproar. For some, getting from 60-70 was time consuming for thier old characters. But what about 70 to 80?

As for the other sections. Diablo II is stuck on 1.11b and SC is getting patched to lose the fun but harmless tricks it had. Warcraft III is heading towards Season 5, with a map-making contest. Other than that, Blizzard is pretty inactive with the oldies.

So innovative, where have you been the last 2 years to come up with ideas like theese?

They're the same ideas I've promoted all along. But most of all, we need genuine content.

Honestly, if our lazy-ass staff/members (no offense meant, I'm one of them and I freely admit it) had the oomph to go out and really get content to make our forum blaze with Blizzardy goodness, we could make things work as a Blizzard forum. Blizzard IS plenty wide, with new stuff coming...and frankly we need to pick a niche and stick with it, considering there's not much more room for another Gamespot or IGN that branches out into everything.

At the very LEAST we need to stick to PC gaming. I know we won't abandon PC gaming, so in the interests of really doing well we need to focus on one thing and one thing only.

The problem we have is that we sorta have a mediocre amount of Blizzard stuff, but we don't have any sort of real effort going into our sections. I mean, we need to actually get so deep into Blizzard gaming that we have real resources people are going to care about.

There are a lot of dedicated Blizzard fansites out there...why would you expect anyone to want to come to one that isn't even all that dedicated?

It never works, and we've never given Blizzard games a serious try. The staff members that were in charge were just riding the high traffic from the old days, and now it's almost nothing.

Back then Blizzard games were actually immensely popular. There was a large, healthy fan base to use.

Now? Only Blizzard game that has that sort of fan base in NA is WoW. And WoW forums never work outside of the official ones, and sometimes guild forums.

I'm also willing to bet that a surprisingly large, and growing, number of members don't actually play Blizzard games anymore. I know I don't, for one.

It's time to evolve, to change to focusing on new sorts of games instead of trying to desperately cling to a company that so blatently cares so little about it's fan base, and releases mediocre games way behind the ETA.

You're missing the point, we've tried many other games and failed each time.

When it gets to a point when the forum is near-death, then he can consider anything to keep the forum active. There is more to ownership than meets the eye.

No, we've tried other games and failed because we allowed ourselves to fail.

We allowed ourselves to fail, explain? How would Magical Trevor make new games work?

The same way Magical Trevor made past "projects" work. By buckling down, and actually doing work for the forums.

Example: Counter-Strike

Largest online FPS still today and seven years ago, very popular. We had multiple server sponsorships, a guide to everything we could think of, advertising in game, tournaments (tried), and a clan (tried). It failed, we only managed to gain a few new members here and there to post, and in the end they merged it with PC Gaming.

Could you really do better or is this another Guild Wars, Hellgate: London, D&D Online, and whatever else.
