As some of you may know i am going to get drafted in 3 years. For some reason i can not explain, i wont you people to discuss if its right or wrong to have a draft system in times of realtive peace. I am fully agree with it, because if you are a citizen then you must have a duty to protect your nation, your culture, your history. Maybe thats one of the reasons why US doesnty use drafting right now, they are not much about culture or history. No offence.

"they aren't much about culture and history" shows a great deal of ignorance of our culture, but I can't blame you. We don't force people to join the military because of history. It's in our first Ten Ammendments that state that one cannot be forced to do anything by the government. It's true that we do have a draft system, but it is inactive during relative peace or minor incursions.

I like the idea of all citizens having to serve, but our population would never stand for it. Our country has never liked a militaristic state, and we have fought to keep it that way. The reason we don't enforce draft all the time is culture and history, so I hope I dispelled that ignorance.

I do like the idea, though. Then again, I'm a military brat.

FYI: Our military is our largest employer.

VC, back to arcane, huh? Well if you get drafted then the only Russian you kill is during your free time, while playing splinter cell add-on. In a real war people like you are killed easy and simple, thats also one of the reasons i dont mind being drafted. I get to kill ******s like you. I can already see it, you peeing in your pens and running away, along with the rest of your army, and RF troops are shooting your asses down by thousands. If US goes to war with RF that will probably be true, but for now shut your homo ass hole.

I don't really like idea of it.
Theres certain conflicts that i really see no point in.
But if it was someone trying to invade our country and not us pissing with some poor little country that can't touch us then i'm all for it. Guess its all about differant circumstances.

Well good for you. I however take pride in serving my country, doesnt matter what kind of bastards we will fight, if they are our enemy, then they are just targets waiting to be shot.

I just cant understand how (in America) people can sit back and enjoy all of our freedoms, all of our advantages, and all of our rights, but not lift a finger to defend it. It actually makes me sick at the cowardice of most people. I, for one, cannot wait until I can take up arms and fight. Until I am able to though, I am doing everything in my power to ready myself.

I think a draft could help national cooperation and morale. If we all knew that at any moment we could be called and fight with our fellow Americans, there might be a since of...trust? I think thats a good word to use.

Meh, Im just rambling. :)

One of the problems I have with drafting is what if you are drafted and you completely disagree with going to war. For instance, many people were forced to go to Vietnam, and I personally feel that that situation was nothing but a waste of a lot of American lives. I will fight for my country if I feel the fight is justified, but I will not blindly run into combat while the people making the decisions are sitting in an office drinking coffee with nothing at stake but mere reputation.

If my freedom was being directlly attacked i.e someone was invading america and by some ****ed up reason I was still here and not in france then I would take up arms. But I don't believe in waisting my life on wars I don't believe in.

But in essence if were forced to fight in wars that mean jack shit aren't those freedoms your talking about being crushed? Call me a coward if you want to but i'm not gonna jump for joy at prospect of going and taking other peoples lives when theres plenty of other blood hungry americans who will.

So why not let those who want to go to war do it, and only instate a draft when necessary? Oh wait...that's what we have been doing.

I don't see the logic in forcing people into fighting when there are other who go willingly.

my history techer tries to tell us that they draft young people (18-21), and with only a highschool education because they're easier to brainwash at that age, but i'm not sure yet. i might become a military doctor though... or maybe a physicist for the military... that would be cool...
