There will be 100,000 people on their servers. How else could their fees be paid?

Pay to win. If it's that awesome, just pay for it and enjoy how cool it is to you. That way you should have no problem satisfying your hunger or addiction to play it by paying for it monthly.

if they need money, why dont they incorporate like little advertisments into the game, like a coke logo on your gun..etc...

NFL is right. I'm sick of MMORPG's requiring a monthly fee to play.
Do you know how much it would cost a dev/pub house to pay for the server fees, all the while still providing new content? So much that they will go bankrupt in no time flat.

By paying for MMORPG's you ensure that the server stays up and that there will be new content.

Are you angry for paying for HBO to see Real sex and hit movies like Stuart little 2?

The way they see it is a paided entertainment. Because an MMORPG like the Matrix online will keep you busy for so long. That and everquest, it never ends really. It could always be worse. You can have a shitty computer with no sound and an outstanding 128 RAM and memory runs out while playing STARCRAFT*shakes fist in anger*

bleh, way to bypass the fee? easy, wait 6 months or so till someone makes a server emulator or steals the server files and play in a private one...

Everyone need to quit bitching about having to pay monthly for MMO's. If you guys knew how much time effort and money was spent into making those games, and how much it costs to keep not only the servers running, but the dev team to constantly make patches, and work with the game full time, you would stop bitching.

BTW; Matrix Online is going to suck.. It's going to be a buncha Neo's running around.

You have to realize you people pay monthly fees for a lot of other things that are similar. Some people pay for XM radio and cable TV, how is this hardly different. It's a measly $10-15 a month. That's nothing.

wow, If you made a MMORPG and had to pay 10'000s of $$$ every month to keep the servers up I think youd be asking for a fee as well

A simple banner would pay for their fees. Have it in the server selection window or the "main lobby" type thing. Also, the people who buy the game would obviously be a source of income. I'd rather they charge like $100 for a game than billing monthly.

no, a simple banner ad would not be suffice to be able to pay for a server.

1) you have to buy the server or rent it(depends, but from what i can assume, a server would cost over 5k to purchase and hey, who wants to rent a server anyways?)

2) hire programmers to code your server(duh, it wont run your game if the server doesnt have the proper coding.)

3) maintainance of a server (it may not seem like that much, but think of it this way. Comcast charges from 40-60ish dollars a month depending on wether you have comcast digital cable to accompany comcast high speed internet. Now, servers are connected to the internet and can hold 10k or more people on one server. Now, you cant have 5-10k people logging onto a server through one internet cable, you would likely need over a hundred but i am not sure. Well, lets say you have to use 100 internet ports for this server. multiply 40(approximation) into 100...thats a LOT for just 1 banner to pay for isnt it? and its not just having that internet connection. You have to have programmers constantly checking for bugs and such so they can patch the game. And that costs money as well)

the expenses add up. And to keep up with them, mmorpg owners need a monthly fee from 8-20(25 in some!) dollars a month. Now if your not a lazy fatass and actually work, this is no problem for you to pay for. Which i do have a job and would be able to afford a monthly pay based videogame. Its just like paying any other monthly fees...unless you have NEVER payed a monthly fee before...

I hate people who say im to lazy to pay for a mmorpg. I am not going to take my hard earned money, and blow it on a game that after spending a paycheck to buy, to continue pouring money to buy. it is ludacris.

Do you see how that would not work for games like Saga of Ryzom or Dark Age of Camelot?
