Why would it be lonely? People will die, yes but you'll still have friends and people die anyway.

Films and books ain't like the real thing, new roller coaster rides will come out (lol), new technology and new situations.. Life just doesn't get boring like that, while there are other people you can still do things. If you conquer the world there will still be things to do like managing it all.
It would be lonely because eventually the sun would burn out, the world would freeze over, and everyone would die. Then what? Just float in space until the end of time?

Immortality would be an ultimate punishment next to hell. Living your enterinty seeing the people you love die, watching the world fall apart with the wars to come, and not being able to live in heaven with God and Jesus. I would hate to be immortal. I do not fear death. Immortality, I think, is terrible.
I agree. I don't fear death, either. I hope I go to Heaven when I die, but I would rather burn in Hell for eternity than be immortal.

"the knowledge that you don't have all the time in the world is what motivates you to accomplish something while you have time."

I disagree i have the knowledge that i'm not gonna be here forever, but i have absolutly no ambition towards almost anything :).

What if hypothetically they cut your head off? How could you still be immortal? Whats going to live on, your head or what?

Anyway, it would be all to sad to see your loved ones and family die and for you to live on. At least I personally wouldn't like it because seeing humanity keep going in the direction its going, would be horrible.

immortal i think they mean unable to be harmed. they mean live FOREVER. to the end (and rebirth?) of the universe.

with this power you alone could send humanity in any direction you wanted. you could do anything. all id want if i was immortal would be the ability to travel through space, like choose what direction to go in. i would suck just being pulled by gravity and whacked by rocks into different directions. when the earth ends you float for a few thousand years till you find a new planet with life just forming or already formed.

Well put. I once heard an interesting description of eternity:

"To imagine eternity, imagine that the entire Earth is one giant, spotless steel sphere, and every 10,000 years a dove will ascend and lightly touch the sphere with its wings. Eternity would be until the entire Earth was covered in smudges."

Also, every time that you would fall in love, you would have to watch your loved one die again. This would be agonizing, to say in the least.

I think the immortal were talking about would make you immune to disease, growing old, and attacks on your body.

I want to be a waiter at Chili's.

cxoli: but I would rather burn in Hell for eternity than be immortal.
o_O? eH? Burning in hell for eternity would be the same thing as immortality.. except that youll have to deal with physical pain as well. That is, if our definitions of hell agree.

Eventually, but before that we would be able to go into different galaxies and inhabit planets, who knows what could happen.
but I would rather burn in Hell for eternity than be immortal.
That would be worse.

I thought it was "Imagine a mountain of sand 10 million miles high and 9 million miles wide. Every 100 million years a dove would take a tiny grain and carry it off, that is eternity."

Immortality would be nice, if there were things that made it worth it.

Immortality is defined as living forever, that does not mean you are not prone to bodily pain, harm, loss, etc.

By the time you hit 200 or so, you could of already succumbed to many diseases that could not only cause paralysis, but many other literal life stopping symptoms.

You honestly think that through let's say 500 years, you won't of been a victim of at least 100 diseases and/or processes of bodily harm?

You think just becuase you can't die, that means you are invincible?

Think about it, living forever has far worse cons than pros..

I'm going by the "traditional" view of Hell (which I don't necessarily agree with), you know, weeping and gnashing of teeth, burning in the flames of Hell, etc. If you interpret "immortality" as living forever without being able to be harmed, I would rather feel eternal pain then have no feeling at all, in which case I would prefer Hell. If you interpret "immortality" as still being able to feel pain from wounds, I would still rather burn in Hell, because at least you would be there with other people.

Basically, I would rather burn in Hell because I'm just that afraid of immortality.

i say it would dull you.

you all say stuff about "emotions" i believe u would become emotionless.

u meet a girl. u have kids together. she grows old and dies. your kids grow old and die.

u feel horrible for seeing this happen. but u live forever. so you rebuild.

you get a new girl. u have kids. she dies. they die.

u do this 10 times. u learn what i have learned "there is no love" and u learn to just have fun with sex and not worry about shielding your gattor

"Immortality is defined as living forever, that does not mean you are not prone to bodily pain, harm, loss, etc."

Is the definition really a approprite way to decide though? I mean if a human was suddenly somehow to become immortal whos to say what would be of him, if he could feel pain, if he could get disease's etc etc...

i can't take a definition to heart on a subject its never been proven true on before.

Being immortal isn't being invincable.

EDIT: And death is the cause of life. Think about it why would we do anything/live if we were never going to die? Death gives us a time to live and so we all use that and well live...
