even care about applications. They just want helper monkies.
Makes me wonder if the manager thinks you are over reaching
and maybe they feel their job could be on the line?

You could always try going over the managers head.
Contact his higher up and let them know that
you've applied and would like to work there.
And maybe even let them know the whole
situation about you calling and not being turned
down yet also not being offered the job. But I
would use that only as a last resort if they tell
you that you need to talk to the manager.
Maybe then they will look into it.​

Wait wait wait, are you going to places that are HIRING or are you just going to everywhere you can and filling out apps for them to put in their "whenever we need a new hiree" pile?

Because I've been pretty high up 'manager' wise at two places (to where I had access to all personel files, interviewed people, was in charge of making shift schedules and such) and I gotta tell you man, at both we never bothered with that stack. We'd put a "now hiring" thing out, and go off the first week or so of applications and pick someone from that.

So, ya know, if you're applying to places who aren't explicitly hiring then you're kinda slow. Especially in this economy. Or whatever, I don't notice it going to shit, but apparently everyone else does.

I failed their little test about wine and shit, and didn't call him back, but they still hired me. I was amazed.
But yeah, see if you can talk to the owners and try to make a good impression.

You have more worse luck than I do. And that is pretty sad.

First of all, you must devote your efforts to places that have a "Now Hiring" sign on the front, or look like it's hiring season, usually March or April.

Second, go to common places where a lot of staff is necessary. Like Grocery Stores, Construction, video stores, Wal-Marts, Golf Clubs for the season, resteraunts.

Third, make your resume isn't a pile of shit. People won't hire people who don't make themselves look agressive and good.

I am currently working at a golf course's kitchen area. Until I find a job in my field of Computer Programming. Although its messy and not related, it teaches you good life skills when you learn how to cook.
