Well it all sounds nice.
Judging from what I hear you're not doing anything wrong. :-/
And I have to say, I don't think most places these days
even care about applications. They just want helper monkies.
Makes me wonder if the manager thinks you are over reaching
and maybe they feel their job could be on the line?
You could always try going over the managers head.
Contact his higher up and let them know that
you've applied and would like to work there.
And maybe even let them know the whole
situation about you calling and not being turned
down yet also not being offered the job. But I
would use that only as a last resort if they tell
you that you need to talk to the manager.
Maybe then they will look into it.
