Torrid mind, as long as you dont eventualy give in, sell out, and end up being pimped, or serving coffee for the rest of your life, I'm all for your alternativ route for a... job that dont require the norm of graduating, as you said. Like serving coffee, or being a pimp's hoe, for exemple.
Myself, after being done with my BAC in political science and journalism, whant to go on haitus for an indefinite period of time in France, living of a small, 10$/hour random job, with no other purpose than sustaining myself, traveling on the cheap, and building a porfolio composed mainly of photography. Why do I bother with that pesky educamation is an mistery, tough.
See, I'm not completly cynical, I still have unrealistic, easely crushable dreams too.
In theory, my plan is entirely doable, and I know its good because the parents are 100% opposed to it, plus, I've done something similar in alberta when I was 18, and in Ontario when I was 19, during summer time, but who knows. After the debts have kicked in, or worst, if I find a decent mate, plans may get to change....
But I have the profound, fundamental belief that, if I dont travels after my studies are done, I'll never, ever have the chance to do so in my life. This is why I'm determined to go settle for a while in Europe, while I have only a minimum of attachment, if none at all.
