Every rock/alternative/punk song is either bout sex/love/drugs.
What about NIN makes them any of those three groups you mentioned above? :rolleyes
The term alone "I will make you hurt" seems to be overlooked, along with many other quotes from this song. I'll just go into this one line for the moment to help clarify the effects of heroin for the rest of you that may not know.
Heroin is essentially a chemical stimulant called Dopamine. Dopamine is a natural drug produced by the body to keep our systems in a regular balance. We're all living organisms, and though we may not know it, there is constantly pain being sent throughout our bodies. The reason we're not aware of it on the conscious level, is our body regulates the amount of dopamine that is administered to different areas of the body.
When someone becomes chemically addicted to Heroin, their body stops producing it on their own. Thus the reason why heroin addicts can be so dangerous, and act so violently when they're going through withdrawals. Their entire body is wracked with pain.
Thus the term "I will make you hurt" alone, would ring a sharp bell to those familiar with it's effects almost immediately, regardless of the rest of the lyrics.
If some of you guys are just getting into NIN, I STRONGLY recommend checking out their newest CD "And All That Could Have Been". Last track of CD 2 in that set is perhaps one of the most moving songs they've ever put out. No lyrics. None necissary.
