It does when you have to run a MERGE statement on a extremely large database. But you can't merge what is deleted already. Unless you call a ROLLBACK from before you deleted it and merge it then.

As far as I knew, hard disk space or database size wasn't an issue until someone messed up the archiving system. And I find it hard to imagine we struggle for such space.*

Then again, thesite is stored on a giant server PC, probably running on Linux.

So there is enough space to **** around with.
