Mfing tends to be easier with either a Sorc or a Barb. Considering a gull greatly reduces a barbs capabality's, it's best to go Sorc.
Beat norm/nm/hell, which you'll be bound to find good items along the way. Constantly go through cows, preferablly hell, with someone who has good mf, get the items and use/trade.
Mf sorc's tend to be cold, So focus specifically on Frozen Orb,Cold Mastery, Warmth, and Teleportation. Those will be your main skills, only put more than 1 skill point into those. I suggest maxing Mastery and Orb, 15-20 on Warmth, and around 10-20 on Teleport.
Frozen Orb-This will be what you use to destroy the monsters in your way. but majority time, you only kill what you have to for mf. Otherwise, you'll use Teleportation to bypass any obstacles.
Cold Mastery-In Hell, majority monsters(including cows) will have cold immune. Maxing this will allow you to pierce the resistence of those monsters, and will increase the damage of your cold spells.
Warmth-You most likely won't change into seperate equip just for mana regeneration, and sorc's tend to go through it rather fast, so Warmth will be your mana regeneration. Level 15+ of Warmth will allow you to do a constant orb, w/o the trouble's of draining mana. So, this is basically the source of ever-lasting orbs.
Teleportation-This is how you will avoid humans,monsters, etc. that you don't need to fight. It costs about 23-24 mana at start, so putting 10 or so skills on this drops that to 12 mana or so. At a lower level, it will go through your mana quickly, regardless of your Warmth level, so you will be forced to carry a big batch of mana potions.

For Norm, I suggest 40-50. For NM, I suggest being level 50+. For hell, I suggest 60-70.
Onto Stats: For Strength and Dexterity, you only want the minimal requirments to wear the MF equipment. You'll mostly want Vitality and Mana. An enourmas supply of mana allows you to kill monsters more quickly w/o the need to wait for regeneration, but Vitality/Teleportation is what will keep you alive.
