Help On UMS Maps

Guess since nobody is posting anything, I guess I'll just list some of the most commonly asked questions about UMS triggers..

Mass Attacking

This is really simple and doesn't require alot of thinking or trigger setting. First you need a location for the units to move attack to, so I'll use Location Attack Middle as an example of attacking to the middle and Location Attack Red as to the red units Bunker (depending on if its a Golem/Evolves style map) and so on... Next you'll need a location that gives the order to make the units move, a Beacon or something with a Civilian as the unit that gives the order, so Location Mass to Middle will be used for middle and Location Mass to Red will be to mass to the red players Bunker, or whatever.

The trigger should look similar to this.
(Note: This trigger should be set for the player who has control over the Civilian)

Conditons:

Current Player brings at least 1 Terran Civilian to Location Mass to Middle.

Actions:

Issue order to all Any Unit owned by Current Player at Anywhere: Attack to Location Attack Middle
Preserve Trigger.

And thats how you do it, and using the Current Player command as the Player makes it a whole lot easier to make a copy of the trigger and apply it to the other players.

Okay. Here are a couple questions:

What exactly is UMS? I know. It's kind of a newb question, but I never got into making maps or anything like that. I just played.

Would you consider it better than SC X-tra or what? I just got into making maps now and there's so many editors and stuff that I don't know which stuff to use.

UMS stands for Use Map Settings.

Would you consider it better than SC X-tra or what? I just got into making maps now and there's so many editors and stuff that I don't know which stuff to use.
SC- Xtra Editer is the best map editer I know of, mostly because of the AI Scripts and the ability to place units extremly close together so I would use it if I was you. Theres not too many other programs out there that do a whole lot more than SCXE, but there is a few that will help. Like ISOM, letes you create square terrain, and also some other cool stuff depending on the values you use. ISOM isn't really that hard to use, but I don't remember the exact step you have to take, but the ReadMe file that comes with it will help out. Other tools that I use are a bit advanced like AIEdit so once you get the hang of making maps and you start understanding how triggers work.

Here's something for you:

Suppose you've been working on a map for about a year on and off. Everyone that's tried the map so far has loved it, but they're disappointed because the map comes to a passive halt. The map cannot be finished because it was made in the Installation tileset, and the need for Zerg buildings (with CREEP) has risen.

Any solution? Message me if you want a copy of the map to help clear things up.

I don't really understand the problem.

Downloadthe latest version of GuEdit, it allows you to edit terrain on the map, and if you must, convert the whole terrain. You can download it here.

A solution for Master_America, the SCM Toolkit can change an existing maps tile set to another tile set, with one click.

I will admit, it's not perfect, it has a tendancy to swap map doodads, like trees, for rocks, and tar for ice.
But, at least the triggers and locations move over whithout a hitch, and you have the new tile set, without having to start over from scratch.
You can always go in and edit appropriately with SCEditor.

I know for sure this works, because I took a "Turret D" map, and converted it to Desert, and Ice.
Ten minates of cleanup, and it looks like a new creation, and yes I left full credit to it's original creator.
Same with a few of my melee maps, click, edit, done.

Yeah, I know that. It's just that it seems to have a lot of trouble converting installation terrain. GUEdit doesn't do it at all, and SCMdraft crashed. I need a DLL for SCM toolkit, anyone know where to find it?

Never mind, I found it.

Changing the terrain type is DEFINITELY not going to work... way too much to replace in a 2/3-finished 256x256 map. Oh well, I guess it's hopeless now. I guess I'll just have to live without Zerg creep.

um i have a qustion how do u make a unit apeer when u get atack and it follows u?

lol i dont think thats possible...theres no way to detect a unit after its been attacked, but u could do that if the unit is getting killed i guess. Why would u need to do that anyway lol?

and what i meant by detect a unit after its been attacked is theres no way to detect a unit in a particular 'attacked state'.
