Headset Shopping (Now a tech support thread)

Buying a new mic solved a few problems. It fixed the static i get in ventrilo but some people claim they can barley hear me. in TF2 people can hear me, but theres a lot of static to some people. I think it a onboard problem. So i will end up sending the mic back to newegg

Will getting a USB headset/soundcard help fix this? or will a really cheap sound card work?
