Allot of them probably aren't goths at all. Period. It's sad how trends and cliques are now days, because it really gives a bad name to the people who really understand the gothic culture. This goes for anything though...not just gothics. Almost anything like that is missinterpreted by people, and made into some form of popularity contest. Then it totally looses all meaning, and everyone get's the wrong idea of the lifestyle is really all about. It has a history, over hundreds of years, people just think they know what they're talking about.
But yeah, being gothic is a lifestyle...not a fashion statement. Sure wearing the typical dark goth clothing can be part of it, but that's just the thing...it's only part of it, and it doesn't even have to be. You can wear whatever you want to, and still be a goth. You don't just put on some black clothing, black makeup, and listen to angry music to be a goth. That isn't what it's all about...and allot of goth music isn't even usually angry (which is funny)! Sadly though, that's today's stereotype for gothics, because many of the people who claim to be gothic are just doing it for attention, and don't even know the first thing about what gothic is suppose to be. They aren't all "posers" as you say, but many of them are just trying to stand out by rebelling.
Those you talk about are probably just angry kids trying to stand out. Not goths. As for your main question of this post, I don't really know how to answer it...because I don't pay attention and worry about other people I don't even know.
...and who says blink 182 are posers? They has punk influences. They may not be actual punk, but I don't think they've ever claimed to be.
