I bought FFXI when it first came out for PS2 months ago. After I downloaded everything I needed from PlayOnline it told me I had to restart without a disc in and click the HDD to view the PlayOnline Viewer. Whenever I clicked it, it would show the Playstation 2 logo and then lock up. I recently purchased a Refurbished PS2 (which is warrantied and is guaranteed to be the same quality as a brand-new PS2, as Refubished PS2's get new parts when they are traded in). When I try to go onto the PlayOnline Viewer with this PS2, a similar problem occurs. Instead of locking up on the Playstation 2 logo, it just never loads it. The screen turns black for a moment then goes back to the Browser. I even got a replacement HDD and tried it on my brother's PS2, but still, nothing. When I tried reinstalling the software, an error came up. I'll post the error later, I don't have it now. I just want to know if anyone has had the same problem and knows what to do. When I called PlayOnline about it they said they've never heard of that happening before. I am going to try calling them again tomorrow, but any help from you guys would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I have a first generation PS2, and recently had to get it sent in to sony to repair it cause it got DRE. They repaired it free of course. I've never heard of or experienced your particular problem w/ POl or FFXI on PS2 (my problems are much worse and havnt been fixed yet >.<) But i doubt its the hardware if youve tested this on multiple consoles. Try calling Sony, they are actually really helpfull.

Get it for PC. You can talk to people. Its so annoying to be in a party with people who take 1 minute to type "Hi! Thanks for the invite!"

Don't got a PC, had one but it got ****ed up. I use computers at my mom/dad's office, but the internet sucks for playing games.

Btw I have a USB keyboard. :/

My PS2 is also a first generation. Do you think I can send it into sony so they can fix it up too? Mine's not broken, but I want it to get fixed up, can they do that? The front part of the cd tray also fell off so no more ps logo there. I want it fixed up.

Well, I've tried it on newer and older ones. I don't think it has to do with the generation though. Dammit, guess I have to call Sony, or get a new HDD on Tuesday. Maybe Gamestop will replace it since we've tried it on 3 different PS2's...

Moral of the story: Final Fantasy is dead.

Go buy yourself a computer with all the money you get back for returning that game and save up for a bit.

They'd probably charge you for that, unless you are under warranty. The only free repair they do that I know of is fixing DRE, but they also fix other problems they find, or if the damage is extensive enough, they just send you a brand new PS2.

I thought that was broadband only? We have dialup, so I doubt we'd be able to talk to people.

Anyway, we got it to work. It just took us three HDDs and two PS2s....

Call them. And no, FFXI isn't broadband only, We just frown upon 56k users, because with last nights addition of europe, at peak times servers now have around 7k people in em, which is a big jump from 4000. Valkurm Dunes is hell on earth I tell ya...

I gave up after getting to lvl 17.. I believe he still exists, but I sold all his gear to get other gear. I made many diff chars.. experimenting. The game doesn't have very good skills for like melee, that is why WoW>FFXI.

Melee classes are over bearing in that game, wtf are you smoking? There's so many that dragoon got singled out as worst 50+ to the point where it took 8 hours to get a pt invite, so i said "**** it" and started over (not before selling the character for a good $600 mind you)

Assuming cxoli lives with her brother drax I'm pretty sure the ps2 network adapter is broadband only, and she said you have dialup sooooo, maybe that's why it isn't connecting. Otherwise call the company that made the game and ask them to either help you or you can take it back. If the store doesn't accept it call the FFXI company and make them help you or make them send you money for it.

Actually, she said she thought it was "Broadband Only" only on PC. Btw, why would it be broadband only for pc if it works with dial-up on PS2? (directed towards my sis).

And we got it to work anyway, with no lag. The original problem wasn't that it wasn't connecting, it was the HDD wasn't opening it AFTER we dled it. But meh, I think it pwns D2...So much more fun...
