Locations and triggers are the main engine behind the map making. Without triggers, it would basically be a melee game and without locations, most of the triggers will be useless.
I don't know what genre of map to suggest to make first. I made a defense map and it wasn't hard, yet it wasn't easy.
My tip for the people who have no idea what a scenario is:
-Play a very fun map at Battle.net and let that map be something other than a RPG map
-Get addicted to that map
-Use Starcraft Campaign Editor and open that map(pray to your computer that the map will open)
-After the map has been opened, fiddle around with it
-Open the trigger editor under Scenario at the top(Read and understand)

This is basically what I did and now look at me.

Do you know about those 'switch' things? Make it when the level starts that a switch is cleared. Make the condition for the next level:

-Switch 1 (or whatever) is cleared
-Player 1 brings Starter to Beacon

That should be the problem.

Anyway, my first map that I'll actually release is a Sunken D one. I'm not saying what kind it is, I know there'll be a jerk who'll take the idea somewhere.

I'm not talking about MY map. I'm talking about Master Virus' Disease Defense. I can't get the game to start.

And if you get addicted to a ums, 99% of the time, it will be protected.

I remember making a crap ass rpg type of game in starcraft
no colors no nothing, just plain ol star edit.

After several months later, i saw somebody creating a game with a map that looked like mine, but with additional Version +4 or something.

I downloaded it and looked at mission briefings, and it was exactly the same, but the creator of the map was different
and the Entire map was the same as well... but oh well.. no map protecters back then! thats when photon cannons did full damage only to small units :p

Anyways, my first real map I made was Disease Defense. You know, that map that has a body terrain and enemy units come from the hands, legs, and head. I was pretty surprised that I knew so much triggers for that to be my first map.
Wow that was a pretty famous map!

This is wonderful, we have thread bumpers. Great.

On another note, I never finished my first map ever. It was a hugeass RPG-likegame (it was something like winterglades but about30x cooler). I remember that I had so many units placed I needed locations to place the rest of them. I never finished it, but I wish I had, because it would've been an AWESOME rpg.

well, the first map that I made, let me see....

it would probably be also an rpg, but I never finished it. Then I started on android destiny (im sure at least Master Virus and Matrix remember this)...other than that I made a sweet sunken d, but a bad connection makes it very hard to release on bnet, I made an ok mass game, but damn people took advantage of the whole 'leave a spot in the middle of dts and force them to go through 1 by 1' thing so i was like f that. Then I made a bunker wars...not too good, then I stopped. Then i got into grade 10...then I REALLY started doing programming and realized how easy it was!
