In every thread about someone getting a new computer there is always "That Guy" that says get an Athlon 64...

Perhaps when they make 64-bit applications to make the processor worth it, maybe then I would think about it ;) Even AMD themselves say that it's not worth it at this point...

well the new games that are coming out are pretty hard on the processors we have out on the market nowdays. if your a avid gamer, it wouldnt hurt to stay up to date.

64-bit processors isn't staying "up-to-date"...it is pointless overkill. Just get a normal Athlon XP 3200+ or something if you are wanting top of the line, no point in getting a 64-bit processor...those won't be required for anything for probably another 5 years.

And by the way...games nowadays aren't going to match up with even a 2GHz processor for probably another year and a half...we are barely straining 1.4Ghz now =\

Games are harder on video card/ram than a processor I think. Alienware is really expensive I wouldn't get it. I went to their site to look at it because I got a coupon with frozen throne for a hundred dollars off alienware but when I saw that their computers were thousands of dollars I just said oh, hundred dollars isn't as much as I thought.

I wouldn't recommend the XP 3200+. You won't get much out of it's price. And I know this from experience.

The A-64 are the only chip AMD has now that could own Intel BIGTIME. If you feel 64-bit is useless now, atleast recommend him a P4.
A 2.8C outperforms XP 3200+ in both gaming and generic benchmarks, yet it cost only a few extra dollars.

Agreed WQ, but I'm still not all that confident in the motherboards made for P4's just yet =\ Unless they have made some serious improvements over the last 6 months of course.
