just not a big movie doer
Yay, I'm not the only one! People tend to think I'm weird for not liking movies all that much. Then again, I embrace my weirdness. ;)

But there are some films I've really enjoyed. The ones that aren't in English can be found with subtitles.

Lost In Translation
If you travel internationally a lot, you've totally had this kind of experience.

Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon
Touching story, beautiful dancelike martial arts.

Serenity
I have a soft spot for Firefly. XD

Harold and Maude
Very clever, very funny, very touching. Great use of music, too. One of the few films I can bear to watch over again.

Shri 420
An old film from India (made in the 50s, I think). I must have been 3 when I first saw it, though of course I totally missed the clever dialogue and sociopolitical commentary back then. Apparently it became a huge hit in Russia!

Asoka
Another Indian film, more recent (2004?) about the emperor of the ancient Mauryan empire in his warmongering days. Not for the faint of heart. The costumes are amazing (I want Kaurwaki's armour!) and the music is incredible... and it's also one of the few films where the fighting is based on kalaripayattu (the martial art which katars* come from).

*There's no katar-fighting that I recall, but you do get to see an uruhi (multiple-bladed whip) in action!

My faves. The quotes touched me a little.

* Forrest Gump.
It's so, real. I could barely watch it without going all emo when Bubba
died
"That's all I have to say about that."

* Scarface
The American dream when you take it to far. Amazing acting. We need more irony in movies please.
"You need people like me!"

* Pulp Fiction
Because it's just the best fucking pulp ever. Nuff said.
"I specifically told you to bring that watch!"

* The Matrix trilogy + The Animatrix
Because it invented bullet time, and changed how I look at things. I mean, it got me intesting in philosophy for some reason. That's some deep shit.
"There is no spoon."
* Star Wars
Because of the incest, and everybody thought it was hot before figuring it out. xD
And it's just awesome for so many reasons, to much to type.
"That is why you fail."

* The Dark Knight
Fairly new, but it should already be obvious.
"Why so serious?"

And lots of others. These came to my mind first, so call this my top list for now if you want.

@pulp quote;
A better part is when Jackson eats the guy's Big Kahuna Burger-->to the point where he quotes some made-up verse and shoots him.

Or Walken's history on the watch.

Haven't seen it yet. Tend to wait a year or so before watching hyped stuff.

@Tyrael
That part was funny, but didn't really do anything to me. I did laugh my ass off when he shot that guy in the head by accident.

By the way, can anybody tell me if that gimp died? Watched the movie many times, but it's still not clear. :/

It is because of Agent Smith I will never fully love anyone . . . End speech of the final battle between Smith and Neo.

And most of the philosophy I read when the first movie came out. Mainly Nietzsche.

I thought it was good. LOVED the part where Smith compares humans to a virus. It's actually true, no matter how you look at it. Sure, we've put ourselves in some animal groups, but we don't behave like it anymore.

i'm guessing that you claim the matrix got you interested in philosophy but you never actually bothered to read philosophical texts after watching the matrix

Oh lol, almost thought you actually meant it.

I actually do read plenty of philosophical texts. I'm particularly fond of thought experiments. You know, the ones that are so well thought out that you don't actually need to perform them to see the result. But it's not like anybody here is going to give a crap about me posting examples anyway.
