Lately there have been talk and announcements of if Bush get's 2nd presidency term, he is going to be bringing back the draft. He even announced this himself supposedly. But if Kerry get's presidency, he doesn't plan on bringing back the draft but to finish the war and get it done and over with as soon as he can.

In my mind, what possible reason is there to bring back the draft? After Bush loses 2nd term, I am almost sure that the draft will be killed, and even if he does get 2nd term, congress will not accept the bill.

What are your thoughts on the draft coming back into action though? Just post...

You might reconsider where you put this topic, as this might be a little over the normal chit-chat poster's head.

The draft is more of a desperate situation tool. Like if you're running short of troops, and you needed more. I don't think we need it for the War in Iraq, but possibly we might need it in a war to come. Who knows?

That's why they would bring it out during that war, no? We have millions of troops already and, thousands and thousands of troops are already stationed in Iraq. Why would we need more soldiers, just to get more then we want killed in war? We haven't had over 1k soldiers killed yet(as far as I know.) Why would we want more over there to be killed...

And I posted this here 'cause I thought it could use some talking over, we can chit-chat about it...

My understanding on why this was even being considered was that many people signed up for the reserves and such just to fininace their education, hopeing to never serve active duty.
This latest conflict proved many wrong.
So it is being considered because those that would have signed may not in the future.

The reason why I don't think the draft will happen is that in todays American society, those that would be drafted are not what the military would want in the first place.

The drafting of women is not a true issue to me, other countries do it, and they don't seem to have major issues with it.

But both of my reasons can be combined into one with a possible scenario.

You are in a conflict, hunkered down in your fox hole, bombs exploding, bullets flying over your head, the things that nightmares are made of.
To your left is a fat geeky nerd that is whimpering for his mother.
To your right is a prissy beauty queen crying because she broke a fingernail.
The nightmare got worse.

Our military has proven that they will let people out the service with little or no questions rather than force a person finish their term.
They would have to either offer incentives they usually don't to keep people in, or be ready to farm alot out before they even took their entrance exams.

This would've definitely been all over the news. I don't doubt it, I know it's wrong.
