Try some good metal bands.

In Flames
Tristania
Children Of Bodom
Samael
Eternal Tears Of Sorrow

Note: These aren't pop metal bands...so I don't know if you'd like them as much..but they are good.

A band's mission is to sell music. Slipknot accomplished this more than other metal bands, and they're pop now?

Btw, In Flames sucks now. They were always a bit formulaic, but they've fallen right the hell off.

Last time I checked, popular meant pop. Correct me if I'm wrong.

...and I disagree about in flames. I prefer their older sound , but I still love their new material.

noun - pop - music of general appeal to teenagers; a bland watered-down version of rock'n'roll with more rhythm and harmony and an emphasis on romantic love

Adj. pop - (of music or art) new and of general appeal (especially among young people)

They may be a little bland at times, but are definatly not a watered down version of rock, or emphasis on love though they have some harmonies (not much) and have become generally appealing to teenagers.
