I think it's a healthy step in the wrong direction. Just banning trans fats won't help. People still ingest bottles full of high fructose corn syrup everyday, which is just as bad for you, but the kind of food and drink they're in is appealing to people. You can go to a 7-11 and almost everything in there is going to have trans fat or high fructose corn syrup in it. It's like trying to climb out of a bottomless pit.
Actually High fructose corn syrup is found to be really no harmful for you than regular sugar.
