What's the best way to learn a foreign language on your own time, without a class, etc.? (Living in the fluent country isn't an option.)

The fastest way to learn is to read (using a good pc program) and speak the language, preferably with natives. Forums and online gaming help a lot

I might check out this Rosetta Stone thing. It's really expensive to buy it looks like so hopefully I can pirate it. :hxc

Since I can grasp Spanish SORT OF but not speak it and French a little too I thought I'd go AZN and try Chinese or Japanese.. I'm assumign Rosetta stone teaches to read/write/speak.

Learning alphabets has never been the hard part, IMO.

Rosetta stone is a hugely popular way for people to learn langauges, google it, should find something usefull (i think they products to buy, but if you know where to look you can get 'em free)

One of my friends learned Russian through his girlfriend/fiance. Russian was her first language.

Date somebody who's fluent in that language and make them teach you for sex.
