actually hoz only does better minimum dmg, comparing to Exile vortex. Vortex does more max dmg but its poor at min dmg

HoZ's attribute and skill bonuses give it higher damage than Exile vortex. Damage consistency is important. All damages in D2 come in the form of aaaa-bbbb. bbbb is the damage you brag to everyone else. aaaa is the damage you use as an excuse for losing.

With HoZ, the damage is consistent enough that the duel is not as luck-based. You win or you lose...it's that simple. With vortex shields, the damage consistency is so bad that you may end up losing to people you should've beaten when comparing average damages. This is especially the case with Exile, since you lose if Life Tap doesn't trigger, or triggers too late.

I agree with Azn... you are simply brainwashed. Upped HoZ is loads better than the best perfect exile you will ever find. I still see lifetap as a bandaid anyways. Azn presented a good arguement... read it.

There are 3 situations when Exile may be a good choice:
1. Fighting Ubers (I don't have any problems with just using Dracul's)
2. Dueling very good BvC barbs (dual-weilding, aura-stacking, poison-stacking, pre-buffing guys with up to 8K life, high AR and damage)
3. Dueling very good Fury druids (I'm talking about the rare ones who can kill you in 2 hits, have twice the amount of life that you have, obscenely high AR, and out-range you)

Each of those 3 cases listed above can be done effectively with HoZ. In pretty much every other situation, using Exile is asking to be killed.


Hehe...just for the hell of it, right after doublethatfliptrick made that post, I went into several "Smite Pk" games, which were filled with Exilers. Care to guess my win-loss ratio?

Can you back that up, or are you just saying that without reading the rest of the thread?

FYI, "ethereal" does not boost Smite damage. Smiters aren't hurting for that extra defense on the HoZ, so it's basically a waste of a socket.

Well, Zaka offer Very good res, good smite dmg when upg, it has Nice + skills(= more dmg), Good block(=more life), Stats(Again= more life), 1 open socket and 20% more ar. Only 1 of this mods are useless for a Smiter!. and that is the Added ar. So Upg Zaka give best smite dmg, best life, best res..

Exile offer: Best def (only good vs: barbs, non smite melee palas, melee assas, and melee druids.), a little max res ( but that sux if you dont even have the res), Life tap (life tap is like, "When life tap trigger i win!!" "well then you got 15% chance to win?").. Then Exile can have More dmg than Upg Zaka, But then You wont have a Res exile... and if you have res exile Zaka give better res + dmg anyway...

So for Smite duells the only Mods that make anydifference at all is: Life Tap, 2 offenciv auras 7 replace life. Cus in Smite vs smite duells def dont have any efect...

Zaka in smite duells this mods that are useful: Skills, stats, better block (you cant block smite, but since your dex is lower you have more life), and 1 open socket ( can be used for like everything..)

Also another thing, Grief give so much dmg that most Smite duells Ends in very Few hits: Means Life Tap have even lower chance to be casted.. With life tap being at the minimum of use, exile is a shield with 2 offenciv auras + 7 replace life in a smite duel..

Edit: Now some1 might come and say: "Exile can have 65%ed as auto mode on the shield, that will give more dmg than Zaka!" Well The open Socket in Zaka can be used for a 40%ed+9 str/dex jewel, giving Zaka even better stats and only 15% less ed.~
