The xylophone is an amazing instrument. I realized this while listening to the Violent Femmes, and also realized that some of my favorite music has xylophone parts in it. Kind of wish I continued playing mallet perc after highschool. I can still do a pretty tight open roll, but I wonder how much I'd still remember if I started playing again.

ANYWAY: what's your favorite instrument? Do you love the xylophone as much as I apparently do? Whatever.

I'm partial to Marimba, but then again, I'm majoring in Percussion and all our pieces for this year were marimba/set songs. No xylophone. I don't like the clink sound it makes though, Marimba's make a much better sound.

Me and a buddy had a recitial the other night actually, where we played Beethoven: Sonata in C Minor (Pathetique) on a marimba. It blew the crowd away.

The last time I played an instrument was years ago, and it was a clarinet. I'm not a very musical person. :(

You get the same thing on marimba if you use hard mallets. But then your perc tech is all like "blah blah ten thousand dollar instrument chip the wood blah blah" and you're like "whatevs bitch, chill". I really like the xylophones clunkiness. I used to not as much, and would play with really soft mallets on xylophone cause I thought hard mallets were too piercing.

My perc tech flipped out when this kid was playing the marimba with marching sticks. Like, literally flipped the **** out and threw chairs and shit. It was hillarious.

i like the babadawoo.

on a side note, once my shop teacher threw a fit like that because a kid was welding without a mask, he threw a pipewrench 5 inches away from the kids head in a rage of anger...man was scary

My perc tech chucked a marimba at someone.
