I was thinking of moving from Windows XP Professional to a Linux based system(I was thinking Mandrake, but I would like feedback on this). I would like to know what advantages does linux have over Windows? and does linux based OS have good game support? Feedback would be great.

I think SuSe Linux is the most popular and it's free, too.

Linux is stable, open source -> secure, dynamic, fast and network-oriented.

Linux based OS don't have game support coming with them (some do, though) but there are various tools that allow you to play Windows games (DirectX, OpenGL...) directly under Linux, with graphics card support (in case there's the driver available that you need)

I use mandrake, it has all the nice things windows doesn't but it isn't compatiable with anything without an emulator. Winehq.com has a nice emulator if you need one.

Maybe I will use both linux and windows. Using linux for general things like web browsing ect... and windows for gaming only.

Just set up a partition on your hard drive.

It's annoying to reboot whenever you want to do something in Windows though. I'd just get an emulator.

that could of sounded so much better if you would of said " I will break/close the windows" =D

....creating a partition would solve that...i know i wouldn't like having to reboot everytime i wanted to game

1. You shouldn't have to.
2. You shouldn't have to.

Having to run firewalls and use non-standard browsers is really bad if you think about it.
